Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

Pay was good and tended to be consistent (very few instances of changing the rules on commissions/incentives) over the course of several years there.

    Cons

A lot of leadership changes and the focus of the company / go to market strategy kept changing. Almost the entire back office sit at the company HQ in a small town in Virginia. Very few people at at the company come from outside of that small town and George Mason Univ. Company does not have a sales culture, i.e. support/back office functions don't understand that without the sales organization, there would be no company. A lot of unwarranted attitude comes with what should be normal, everyday interactions with the people at HQ. Politics over common sense or helpfulness.
