I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling means that it is easy to plan appointments. Since everyone agrees the job sucks, you have plenty of friends.

    Cons

They force you to relocate your job if you make a sexual harassment complaint to management. They understaff the store, and expect miracles. If you're in management, expect to be subjected to long scoldings on the number of cigarette butts outside the store, the state of the parking lot, and other things you can't control on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Survey your employees to see how long it takes them to do a task. You would be amazed at how much more time they need.

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees are treated fairly, benefits are average, and schedule is flexible for part timers. Management is flexible as long as you give them notice at least two weeks in advance and are always honest.

    Cons

You won't ever have a set schedule as full time at a store level and the hours of operation for a clothing store is more than rediculous. Not to mention corporate and human resources will never take your side against a customer even when you're not at fault. This is not including the fact that when minimum wage increases, the company will not increase the payroll available to use to run the building.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to either stand by the policy the company invented or just get rid of it all together.

    Pros

    None available. Sorry not sorry.

    Cons

Management shows favoritism. Always calls you in on days off, even days you've requested. Never listens to complaints from customers or associates. They will only give you part time and no matter how hard you work, the newer associates will always get to move up quicker than senior and more deserving associates.

    Advice to Management

Get better management that doesn't sleep with associates and show favoritism.

I worked at Ross Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The discount is the one only good thing about working for ross stores although your low income doesn't help you buy anything

    Cons

Corporate blames employees on internal theft and literally ignores the real thieves who walk out the door waving merch in your face. The assistant manager uses favoritism and gives people 4 hours per week. The managers dont help the associates with work or care about them. You are threatened of getting fired if you don't force customers out of line to your register fast enough. Customers threaten you and there is no real security. If the corporate does call in security it only lasts a few days with temporary armed guard. When you are in the fitting room customers get mad when you force them to hang their clothes on the T stand which is pointless and does not prevent theft.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming employees for "internal theft" and do something about the actual thieves. Don't allow the person who makes the schedule give employees only 4 hours per week and stop the favoritism. Change the protocol and policy because calling a next customer forward makes the customers mad and it does not speed up the process. The cpr or cpa score is not practical and only stresses employees

    Pros

Fun coworkers, but that can happen in any place.

    Flexible schedule.

20% discount is ok, as well as the 40% thrice a year.

    Cons

Horribly overworked. This is the kind of place where they try to such every last penny out of your hour, and that's the sole reason turnover is so bad. You finish your assignment, and you get rewarded with more work, more work, more work. You are given an assignment and they keep calling you to the register when it gets busy, never giving you time to finish your assignment whilst using filthy scare tactics and negative reinforcement, telling you your daily assignment must be done. I wouldn't mind the work if we were at least compensated enough. So many contradicting polices as well, I'm at the farthest register from the door, facing away from the door, yet they expect me to greet customers as they walk in. When the it's not too busy, they lecture you on how you are supposed to "take your break on time", but I know full well that they don't give a crap, seeing as I got 2-3 hours past my break when it's busy, yet they don't bat an eye.

    Advice to Management

Stop it overworking employees! I know they are paid, but there's a reason why your stores are insanely messy. You need to him more people and divine the work, rather than throw unrealistic mountains of responsibilities on top of each Associate.

    Great discounts. Co workers nice.

    Cons

    Need to train more efficient

    Advice to Management

Take time to train employees properly make sure they get most of it before having them do their job on their own. My training was rushed and not explained too well.
