I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay versus the rest of the industry in both salary and bonus pay. Half day Fridays during the summer months. Able to wear jeans on Mondays and Fridays. The company as a whole is growing, so there is opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Stressful and challenging work environment. Most associates work 9-10 hours a day, sometime areas work more. There is way too much management, and not enough assistants/associate to actually do the work needed to grow the business. Location of the office is not in a nice area of downtown.

    Advice to Management

Hire more support to implement all of the work that needs to get done.

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mark downs and double discount days every 4-5 months for mon-thu.

    Cons

It's so busy here as a cashier I've almost never taken a second break on a full shift as a full time associate

    Advice to Management

Extent double discount to 5 days, make normal discount 30% not 20%. Let us wear the clothes we buy at Ross to Ross.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Chance to move up fast in the company, and good employee discount.

    Cons

Can not move up to corporate position without college experience.

    Advice to Management

Huge turnover in this company due to unrealistic expectations, and lack of upper mgmt chances due to college rule.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    They have continuous training
    Easy to earn time off
Birthday was considered a holiday - got paid day off

    Cons

Stores are usually understaffed and overworked
The discount isn't great compared to other retailers discounts
The shipments sent in don't help with efficiency - they aren't packed well and the team is never staffed fully

    Advice to Management

Invest a little more into your employees. Quality employees will stay if you staff the store appropriately instead of running them ragged at nearly minimum wage.
Look into making shipments make more sense - much more time is spent hanging clothes and sorting through items because the boxes come with the most random mix of items. I worked at other store where items came on hangers (probably done by cheaper labor)

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. The discount. 2. Advancement opportunities with the good store managers. 3. If you're hardworking and flexible you can usually get more hours than originally scheduled.

    Cons

    1. Payroll availability is sparce after the holidays very few hours offered in January and February. 2. Starting pay should be better. 3. Increasing expectations of store level employees, but additional payroll coverage not in line with the additional expectations.

    Advice to Management

Advice for corporate level management: LP % of store management bonus potential should be revised. Digging into poor performance districts by reaching out to store level management teams, without the concern of retaliation will probably yield greater insight into the real root causes of poor performing districts.
