I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are ok but not worth the stress you are under to get them. No room for advancement unless you know the right person.

    Cons

The expectations for every employee is stressful in a discount environment that is constantly busy but always limited staff because of being cheap and greedy.

    Pros

pay for managers is good. Generous benefits. Several paid Holidays.

    Cons

You will never use any of those holidays. You have to work all of the time. High turn over, despite anything you personally do to retain associates. The routines that they expect for you perform each day are great in theory, but are not practical in the real world of retail. Zero life balance.

    Advice to Management

    You wouldn't listen anyway

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are really focused on developing talent and promoting from within, even though I was an external hire. They found me on linked in...I didn't even apply for the job

    Cons

Lots and lots of turnover management all the way down. Ross customers trash the store, which leaves the managers and employees feeling over worked and underpaid to have to deal with that. Payroll is always being cut which adds to people quitting or having to work harder to over compensate. They will also push people into promoting, that honestly aren't ready in order to ensure supervisor or management positions are always filled.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone is a hard worker doesn't make them a leader. That's called the halo effect and should be avoided.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount, family oriented with store team, process in merchandising and service is straight forward. This company is honestly fun to work for. I love the merchandise and also the give back initiative to the boys and girls club is just awesome. They should do more of this and volunteer work.

    Cons

Corporate leadership needs to be more understanding of store teams and take care of the employees, give more recognition to the teams and the hardworking managers. Do not just come and tell us we are doing good job but offer better recognition and incentives better than true cards. This company makes so much money and doesn't pay it forward to the associates. He pay scale could honestly be so much higher. The part time associates that want to grow with the company aren't fully motivated because of the under appreciation from corporate management. They should also figure out better hours format for the Bay Area nor cal associates. 24 hours is not easy to live off of.

    Advice to Management

Recognition and development of teams needs to be a bigger priority.
