I have been working at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relatively speaking, benefit package is not that bad.

    Cons

Started as a highly motivated scientist, until I learned that it was a great mistake to waste my talent, energy, and professional life where there is no respect for Scientific Research and Cancer Research and above all No Respect for highly motivated and devoted Scientists. I am not wondered why many good scientists left, are leaving, and plan to leave!!

    Advice to Management

Respect scientists and appreciate their work. Less advertisement and self glorification and less propaganda and shows, but value real and hard-working scientists.

I worked at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Roswell is a respected institute with high standards of care for its patients. A vigorous academic institution. Tons of seminars with productive criticism. Endless opportunities to collaborate and highly advanced core facilities.

    Cons

Not a con of the Institute, but research positions are grant based and therefore never a stable line of employment.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if there was a program to groom upper level research staff for management positions.

    Pros

good benefits (retirement, health insurance, life insurance, flex spending account etc.); nice people to work with

    Cons

not to much room for the advancement, no pay rise - doesn't matter how long you've worked, depending on the department administration can be pain in the butt (slow and incompetent)

    Advice to Management

too much money put into PR stuff, invest in your employees instead, no one cares about free hot-dogs for employee appreciation day or a flashlight as a Christmas gift...

I have been working at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefit plan. You can work indepently. No overtime is expected.

    Cons

Do not promote from within. That's a total joke. You bid on something and never even get called for a interview. No respect among colleagues. The unfairness is REAL!!

    Advice to Management

Stop playing games and holding back great employees. You are going to loose employees because of the disrespect, not showing appreciation. You constantly add more work without increasing pay.
