I have been working at Rothstein Kass as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at Rothstein Kass offers an internship that was similar to one at the big four public accounting firms, but with much more exposure and responsibilities on the job. The long hours and the type of work is pretty much the same regardless of which public accounting firm you work for, but what's different is the atmosphere in the office. For me, I had the pleasure to work with an office team of just 15 individuals, so the personal connections truly existed, which played a huge role in the culture. Everyone who works for the firm is extremely friendly, intelligent, approachable, and hard-working at the same time. I never felt pressured by any deadlines at any point and the entire office atmosphere feels like a team environment 100% of the time. To help cope with long hours that naturally come with busy season, Rothstein Kass had what they called the "marathon." It was a string of 26 events throughout busy season that varied from competitions to social gatherings to bring up employee morale and reduce individual stress.

    Cons

The reason I gave Rothstein Kass 4 stars instead of 5 was because the work-life balance, at times, was not there. This kind of goes without saying with any public accounting role, but it would have been nice to get out of the office early every once in a while just to help reduce stress and get personal time. That being said, Rothstein Kass's compensation justifies the long hours and grueling work.

I have been working at Rothstein Kass full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It had great benefits and a great workplace environment. It also had a good work/life balance. And it paid overtime.

    Cons

Being bought out by KPMG. Bye bye mid-size perks. Also, inter-office work teams and interactions were not nearly as efficient as working with team members located in one's local office.

    Advice to Management

Wish you wouldn't have sold the firm. We were doing so well.

I have been working at Rothstein Kass full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Rothstein Kass has a great culture and intelligent individuals working for the firm. Only people who have anything negative to say are those who got let go because they were below average.

    Cons

As with any accounting firm, the hours are no fun. It's doable, you just have to want it. If you don't, private is the way to go

    Advice to Management

Management has improved over time. I think they try and lsiten to the lower-level staff, but they never adhere to comments or suggestions as much as they want.

I have been working at Rothstein Kass full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-One fair Partner who is very proactive and listens to the needs of his employees
-The job is simple and can be done efficiently with all the resources available when you work with managers whose interests support the firm interests as a whole.

    Cons

-The system always freezes and IT blames it all on the server and there's just 'nothing' that can be done.
-Some members of management believes in only ONE way to audit
-Personal preferences affect the evaluation process
-Very detailed that Supervising Seniors miss the big picture of the audit because they focus too much on the neatness and uniformity of workpaper documentation

    Advice to Management

The world of auditing is diverse and it continuously evolves so efficiency is key to more competitive bidding and winning proposals. Your traditional ways are in no way contributing to your efforts of being efficient. Educate your managers and supervising seniors who are afraid come out of their comfort zones and accept other audit methodologies that encourage efficiency.
