I worked at Round Rock Medical Center full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly staff, management that shows appreciation for your work, bonuses yearly, tuition reimbursement is great, benefits were amazing, location is nice.

    Cons

Rapport is off, you will be getting report for five patients from several other nurses. The technology is dated, emar meditech looks like it operates on Windows 95 and is not even close to the current version. Too much time spent charting. Communication is through old cellphones from the 90s and walkie-talkies. The older cna staff act insubordinate and some of the older nurses are rude to new nurses and staff.

    Advice to Management

Update meditech to current, you're using an ancient version that is confusing and will cause medical errors, punish people creating tension in the workplace, 1 nurse to give report to 1 nurse for the 5 patients, utilize mobile heartbeat instead of old walkie-talkies and old cellphones. Technology, rapport, and empathy is a must in a healthcare setting.

I worked at Round Rock Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Healthcare is a calling, and one still has the ability to gain valuable experience.

    Cons

Increasing levels of responsibility without adding or increasing support to achieve expectations. Healthcare is run as a business, with the main focus on the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Some PCTs have more education and experience than the RNs, which get the majority of the focus. An RN may have an ADN, while your PCT working under them makes 30% of their pay, with years' more experience. PCTs work extremely hard, but are essentially at the top of their bracket on the day of hire - there is no promotion scale, so the position is a dead end. The PCT is also severely hindered by the limit to perform... more than extremely basic skills. The typical PCT uses the position to offset nursing school costs, or as resume experience, with no expectation to stay in the role longer than necessary to achieve that goal. My advise is to refocus on your supporting staff, and allow your skilled employees to perform to the level of their ability. You put so much pressure on the RN, while neglecting an untapped resource.

I worked at Round Rock Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Location/ short commute to work

    Cons

The employees run the show here in the Surgery department with no backbone in management. Mean girls atmosphere and lazy employees with a “ point the finger “ attitude. One of the worst St David’s HCA origanizations I have ever worked for. Incompetent management who did not have a hold on anything. They basically condoned everything that was going on by not stopping any of it. They will claim that they have no idea... it was going on but that is complete and utter nonsense. The culture here is toxic.

I worked at Round Rock Medical Center

    Pros

Most of the patients are fantastic and absolutely appreciative of the care you’re giving them. My passion was 100% for them.

    Cons

Horrible management. No communication on areas to improve until they decide to hand out disciplinary measures. Pay is laughable. Benefits are eh. 401k matching this year was changed to end of year matching, so if you leave prior to the end of the year, they get to skip out on matching. Staff that are willing to help out and be a team player terminated. Horribly understaffed. Frequently pushed to 6-7:1 patient.
