Making the transition from a founder/single industry-dependent company
Apr 8, 2023 - Director of Marketing Strategy& PlanningRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Entrepreneural spirit Engineering competence Scrappy attitude to running the business
Cons
Dependent on the US auto industry; susceptible to economic downturns
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your insights and thoughts. We are very proud that Jack Roush’s entrepreneurial spirit is still very much a part of the culture at Roush. We encourage employees at every level to use drive and creativity to resolve challenges. We have always been committed to recognizing and rewarding people who are determined, resourceful, and are willing to take a calculated risk. To your “Con” about Roush being dependent on the US auto industry, we would counter that the very entrepreneurial spirit you recognized and complimented has enabled us to successfully venture into other markets, including aerospace, defense and the theme park industry. Our leadership recognized that the automotive industry is cyclical and very susceptible to economic pressures and has strongly advocated for market diversification. Eyebrows were raised when we took a calculated risk and opened a facility in Orlando to support theme park development, but that venture has been extremely successful and we recently opened a second facility to support growth in that market. Again, we thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Good luck in your new endeavors, and stay tuned for more exciting news from Roush.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We are so glad to hear that you enjoy working at Roush. We put a tremendous value on teamwork and collaboration, and we are always pleased to know that this is having a positive impact on our team members. We are particularly pleased that you stated the people are great - we couldn't agree more! We are always looking for ways to enhance our employees' experience, and we recognize that the 401k is a very important benefit. We review our contribution annually with an outside consultant and throughout the year we monitor how we are stacking up against similar companies in the markets we serve. That is why we raised the employer contribution at the end of last year. We will continue to closely monitor this and look for opportunities for improvement. And always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact HR directly at human@roush.com.

First Coordinator position at ROUSH Industries
Apr 25, 2023 - Coordinator in Allen Park, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great icebreaker into the automotive industry Learn a lot of various skills in the automotive world (hands on and the knowledge) Most people work very well there and truly care about their job Managerial positions work with their employees rather than them working for them.
Cons
Working with a lot of third party company's can be chaotic when working on large projects When bringing in third party employees, who work seasonally, they don't seem to care as much as a direct or full time employee.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts about working at Roush and offering suggestions for improvement. We are pleased you are learning alot about the automotive industry. Roush works on such varied projects our employees are always exposed to something new and different, which keeps things interesting and provides excellent training. We encourage you to take advantage of the hundreds of courses offered through FUEL, our digital training platform, as another way to expand your knowledge base. Working with third company parties can be challenging, but it's also a very efficient way to handle fluctuating work levels. Your Advice to Management echoed a key area of focus for Roush - we are actively working with managers, supervisors and leaders to devise communication tools to ensure they reach out to their team members, both formally and informally. Evan Lyall, our CEO, has made this an imperative and is helping to ensure employees at every level are heard and that their insights and concerns are shared. And always, feel free to contact HR directly at human@roush.com.

Amazing Company, Poor Leadership.
Feb 22, 2023 - Business Development Manager in Livonia, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
All the work here is super interesting. You'll learn so much at this company with all of the engineering, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. This company has the potential of being of the best companies to work for.
Cons
Amazing company; however, the leadership has been in power for YEARS. Most of the executive leadership are from the same town, think the same way, and suck up all of the money, so the company is very top-heavy, and it's difficult to make real changes at this company. If Roush would work more towards succession planning and pay their people what they should be paying, it would be a fantastic company. However, corporate greed oozes out of this company into the culture and limits this company's potential. It's sad.

Thank you for taking the sharing your comments and concerns. It’s obvious that you’re very passionate about Roush and recognize that we are a company with enormous potential. It’s also clear that you have strong concerns. First, to address your concerns about succession planning, please be assured that this is a very important element of our corporate strategy. We are very proud that people are so committed to Roush and our incredible mission that they’ve chosen to spend their entire careers here and have provided Roush with the depth and stability required to withstand industry challenges other companies have not survived. At the same time, we recognize that creating a sustainable company requires new ideas, new technologies, and new skill sets so we have made a very concerted effort, particularly in the last several years, to promote and hire people who can infuse the company with new energy, new perspectives, and expertise in emerging technologies. This is happening at every level of the company. As an example, I would point to our CFO and our CHRO, both of whom have been hired from outside the company in the last several years. On the wage issue, we constantly analyze market data to ensure that we are providing our employees fair and competitive wages and our total compensation package aligns with others in the industries we serve. As you know, our total compensation package has increased, as we have recently taken on a greater burden of increased health care costs to ensure that employees’ out-of-pocket expenses remain affordable and we recently increased the amount the company pays into participating employees’ 401K accounts. We value your years of service and your commitment to Roush, and we hope that information provided at our management meetings and other employee communications will reassure you that succession planning is a very key element of our strategy as we continue to gain momentum.

Opportunities are unlimited!
Feb 22, 2023 - Advanced Durability NVH Test Technician in Livonia, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The opportunities afforded to advance and learn new and exciting technology is unlimited. Roush always tries to promote within. I've been with Roush over a decade and some. I've never once been laid off (Covid) aside. I've never once worried if my job will be gone tomorrow. The chances to have hands on training with today's and tomorrow's technology is unbelievable. The opportunity to work with young and bright engineering staff never seems to grow old. Overtime is always available too. Our benefits are very good also. The many departments and the diversity of work in those departments are unbelievable. Never grow bored here.
Cons
So the cons are lower pay for similar jobs in the field. That to me is overcame by the overtime and the opportunity to learn new skills that can get you better pay tomorrow if you so choose. I believe the Pros out weigh the Cons day in and day out.

First of all, we’d like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions. Feedback is critical to enabling us to highlight and expand the things that we’re doing well and identify and work to correct things that need attention. Promoting from within, providing opportunities for advancement, hands-on training and project diversity have been important to Roush since Jack Roush started the company close to 50 years ago. Glad to know these are the things that have enhanced your experience at Roush! Providing a competitive wage and a generous benefit package have always been imperatives. We constantly monitor market data to ensure that we are providing our employees fair and competitive wages when benchmarked against companies our size in the industries we serve. We consider our total compensation package, which includes both wages and benefits. Based on our deductibles, copays, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum, our benefit plan is above the 90th percentile of plans offered in the US. We will continue to look for ways to ease the burden rising prices place on our employees. And thank you for your comment about more frequent reviews. We have actually begun doing reviews on a quarterly or biannual basis, depending on job classifications, and we are always looking at ways to improve the goal setting and review process. Supervisors appreciate employees who are focused on improving their performance. If more frequent feedback supports your continuous improvement efforts, ask your supervisor or leader to take a few minutes to discuss your performance with you. And always, please feel free to reach out to Human Resources with any concerns you might have: human@roush.com.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your time at Roush. We appreciate both positive and negative comments. We listen very carefully to both to help us improve our employee experience. It sounds as if for you, overtime was both a positive and a negative. Having the opportunity to work overtime is very appealing to some of our team members, and because of the intensity of some of the programs we are executing for our customers overtime is often available. We do recognize that flexibility is important for people juggling family time, schooling and other commitments, so people are always encouraged to discuss options with their leader or supervisor and to reach out to HR directly at human@roush.com if the issue can't be resolved at the department level. Career advancement is a really key focus for us so again, we encourage employees to discuss their career aspirations with their supervisor. We also support employees' efforts to enhance their skill set through a tuition reimbursement program and by providing access to an on-line learning platform that offers literally hundreds of training tools. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We wish you all the best.

Interesting Job But…
Mar 17, 2023 - Associate Engineer in Denver, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The job and the associated challenges were the only reasons why I was there. The customers are great to work with and to be on the front line of new development made it worth it
Cons
Upper management was so beyond disconnected to how things worked, who was doing what, or pretty much everything other than their own paychecks. They cut every corner they could, in order to pay the least amount possible, using only the lowest common denominator of an employee. You were always expendable no matter how hard you worked.
Roush Industries Response
Director, Corporate Communications
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about Roush. We are glad to hear that during your time here you enjoyed helping to create solutions to our customers’ challenging development goals. We’re sorry you were dissatisfied with upper management’s involvement. Many at Roush feel quite the opposite; we still have our founder walking the floors and hallways and stepping into meetings to ensure that we are meeting our customers’ needs. That sets a tone for our managerial team. Part of meeting our customers’ needs is providing cost-effective solutions, which means applying resources appropriately. That does not mean that any employee is expendable; as a services company our people are our most valued resource. Thank you again for your comments, and we wish you the best in your new endeavors.

Employee feedback - positive and negative - is extremely helpful to us and we assure you your comments are heard and are very important to us. We appreciate your positive words about your compensation and schedule, and we appreciate your advice about our Albuquerque operation. You are spot on in recognizing that this is a new operation with a new management team in place. There are always challenges involved with starting a new operation in a remote location, so thank you for providing feedback. Your comments have been shared with the leadership team in Michigan, and we will monitor progress closely. We are excited to have a team in New Mexico, and are very pleased to have you on board.
