I worked at Rovi full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The environment of this company is so toxic that is impossible to see any positive thing.

    Cons

No opportunity at all for growth. Worst managers a company could have. Manager is extremely unprepared for her role, has no idea what she's doing because she spends most of her time engaging on high school gossips instead of paying attention to her work. Totally divided the team with her lack of leadership and visibly provided benefits for the employees that were her personall friends. Extremely passive aggressive person with no communication skills.

    Advice to Management

Needs to learn to separate personal and professional life. Stop lying to your employees saying you "see a bright future for them at the company" even when you know they will be laid off two months later.

I have been working at Rovi full-time

    Pros

Some very talented people in a small cloistered business

    Cons

Exec management is constantly playing to the public company "quarter by quarter" business philosophy. There is a severe lack of continuity by the C level team, which creates churn in the business models. This does not allow new products or people to move forward.

    Advice to Management

Stop making changes in management teams on an annual basis5 heads of sales in 5 years does not allow your teams to get in a flow. Learn to take risks and investment spend in new products. Waiting on a customer to invest in a product for you before you build it stifles innnovation.

I worked at Rovi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not many. Worked with some really good people who sacrifice personal goals just to be employed somewhere and collect a paycheck.

    Cons

Plenty. Upper management fed everyone the line of BS that they cared about culture and were taking actions to correct the negative things. The only thing they did was take the survey again to see if people changed their minds after loads of people left. They also said they'd refocus the main business of Rovi and not be such patent infringement whores and refocus on producing some actual products. Ha. Constantly performing CPR on EPGs that are from the stone age.
They do not invest in their employees. They allowed plenty of quality employees to walk away rather than make any effort to retain them and get rid of the bad seeds. Including really bad seeds in management.
A top heavy organization. Would rather hire a few more VPs at multi-six figure salaries than a handful of lesser paid workers who actually get the work done.

    Advice to Management

Leave. Jump ship. Take your golden parachute and let the culture that I know TiVo to be consume the former Rovi. At least then there would be a chance for employees to survive long term rather than just use the new company as a stepping stone.

I have been working at Rovi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Full responsibility given for a project -> helps in understanding management of people, time ; makes you fully independent asset to the company.
    2. Managers are knowledgeable; a lot could be learnt from them.
    3. Thinking about new solutions to previous problems which reduces the amount of time put in maintenance or just does it very efficiently such that it reduces cost is highly encouraged.
    4. Free Food which is very tasty.

    Cons

    1. Sometimes work could get boring, because you always don't get kaju curry, sometimes to get that you have to eat dal also.

    Advice to Management

    1. Innovative thinking is lacking in company culture. This should be highly encouraged.

    I worked at Rovi full-time

    Pros

The company has great employee benefits, which is the only reason the employees continue to work there.

    Cons

The upper management should treat the employees with respect, this is one of the causes of many people quitting the company. Most people are pushed around and are not allowed to voice their opinions. The only non engineering team in the company is treated like they have no lives outside the office. Are forced to do what the upper management wants, whether this demand is reasonable or not. The salary hike was terrible.

    Advice to Management

Taking into account the cons that have been mentioned above, the management should do something about the things mentioned.
