    Cons

Too many management changes. Poor execution on product strategy

    Advice to Management

Stick to the plan. Invest in growing and profitable product lines. Don't let IP business cloud growth strategy. Foster communication at all levels

    Pros

Flexible work hours, a lot of HR initiatives for learning and work life balance. ESPP program is great, very encouraging if you want to file patents.

    Cons

Lagging behind in product, looks like the main focus is only IP.

    Advice to Management

. Concentrate more on product development, if you want to change the image.
. Need to not just file patents, but convert some of them into products. If already being done, then please highlight the same.

I worked at Rovi full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Distracted management team allows success through politics if hard work and focus are distasteful to you.

    Cons

Endless acquisitions continuously change the culture of the company, so you will never really understand the behavior required to be successful unless you enjoy succeeding by undermining others.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company. Without a competent development organization, the IP portfolio will dry up and you will continue to circle the drain.

I worked at Rovi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary, benefits, onsite gym, subsidized cafe and vending machines.

    Cons

Strategy & Vision (or lack thereof). Too focused on month over month / quarter over quarter revenues, rather than the big picture. Not enough focus on developing / bringing new products to market; majority of focus dedicated to IP renewals. Outdated leadership/company values/matter in how they expect employees to conduct day-to-day business. Not at all comparable to majority of companies in Silicon Valley.

    Advice to Management

Embrace new ways of conducting (and growing) your business. Quit doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

    Cons

    No stable Leadership
    Vision is very unclear
    No team collaboration

    Advice to Management

They really need to get some Vision clear about Rovi and communicate with employees and also should open feedback channel to hear from employees.

I have been working at Rovi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company works in an interesting industry and space, has large customers, and has huge potential.

    Cons

While one of their locations in San Carlos, the CEO and most influential executives are based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and their leadership style reflects it. They aren't innovation focused (other than to file patents for technology that they have no intention of bringing to market). Management style is rigid, secretive, and risk focused.

    Advice to Management

Try open communicaiton and let go of old management methods.
Stop relying on your IP golden handcuffs and start using patents to develop products, not sell licenses.

    Pros

On-site gym, subsidized cafeteria, flexible work hours, smart engineers, dominated market, stock has a lot of room to grow.

    Cons

Management cannot execute, mixed directions make you second-think about your project, large lay-off at Thanksgiving and Christmas time.

    Advice to Management

Smart people senses what's not right, might as well be straight forward.
