I worked at Rovio Entertainment full-time

    Pros

    - Great benefits.
    - Wonderful, creative, and polite coworkers.
    - Healthy work/life balance and very laid back with scheduling as long as you get your hours in.
    - Fun job working in a creative environment.
    - Low-pressure art reviews with your supervisor, unlike other studios where you pitch to a bunch of talking suits.
    - Small studio where you will meet and befriend everyone in the office.

    Cons

    - Company has an itchy trigger finger when it comes to layoffs.
    - Their only production is the Angry Birds Movie so there is no upward mobility or long-term prospects within the company.
    - Non-union studio.

    Advice to Management

Need to diversity and take risks on new IPs. I don't know of a single person who still cares about Angry Birds.

I worked at Rovio Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has great people with a lot of talent. It feels like a startup in terms of processes and tools so it's a good way to learn and get into the nitty gritty of things. You also get some Angry Bird swag which is always a plus. From my understanding, the company has been trying to move a lot of the processes to the US which I'm sure are making things easier.

    Cons

The HQ is located in Finland which would make it sometimes difficult to get things done given the time difference. Also, with everything so manual, it would take longer to get some things done such as reports and answers needed from the team in Finland.

    Advice to Management

A lot was changing during the end of my tenure at Rovio and it was moving in the right direction. The SVP implemented a lot of changes for the good and I'm sure they only improved since my departure.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Rovio has a strong brand with Angry Birds and the desire of the company is not only to do games but entertainment

    Cons

The company is/was paralysed by incompetent middle management who kept hiring very junior and unexperienced employees as they are easy to boss around. This led to inferior products and inability to renovate.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of middle management and start hiring experienced and motivated people. Don't be afraid to hire smarter people than yourself.

    - Competitive salary & benefits
    - Benefits of being a listed company e.g. stock options for everyone
    - Good work-life balance in general but naturally some crunch is required

    Cons
