    Pros

They started out as a great employee focused, family style organization.

    Cons

They grew too big and brought in a lot of people used to working for big oil companies. This took a lot of the advantages of the small company away. There seemed to be very little concern about training the managers.

I have been working at Rowan Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Rig level management is outstanding!

    Cons

The deepwater division, rig manager and up, lead using poor leadership skills and horrible management skills. HR chooses who gets laid off or transferred without any input from rig leadership. Some of the worst rig managers I have ever dealt with are in deepwater. Pay cuts come about every 3 months, and insurance has gone up.

    Advice to Management

Bring the Rowan mentality that made this company so great to work for to the deepwater division.

I worked at Rowan Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very friendly and helpful corporate office staff
    Nice salary and benefits
    Good training opportunities

    Cons

Corporate office should more closely monitor the supervisors and actions which take place offshore. The system of checks and balances needs a lot of improvement to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and never mistreated.

Too many instances where "bias" or favoritism goes unnoticed by corporate.

    Advice to Management

The company should be far more transparent in processes, such as determining who is laid off, promotion and other areas of business. The way some things are done gives the appearance that they have been conducted in a way that is unfair and where the "buddy" system was utilized instead of a professional system. That needs to be rectified. Also, while the HR staff is friendly, some of the methods of conducting business need a lot of improvement, especially during the onboarding process.

I worked at Rowan Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free fruit, paid covered parking, close to shopping and places to go for lunch
Most of the people were nice. Good salary and benefits.

    Cons

Leadership in department changed. Director made things very stressful. If something would go wrong, director would call you out in front of everyone. Had favorites and treated them differently than others.

    Advice to Management

Don't point finger at whoever is responsible for an error made in front of everyone - call them in your office, close the door and tell them. Treat everyone equally even when that person is a favorite of yours.
