I worked at Royal Ahold full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed it bc it was flexible and worked around my ms disease when I had difficulty with it. I couldn't work usually more the 6-7 hr a day 6 days a week. It took my personal life away to maintain my job However the last yr there they didn't work with me and my disease took a turn and I couldn't do the job anymore. Tried to talk to higher managers they didn't care.

    Cons

See above it's pretty cut n dry. Work load vs labor never never were inline. The more you made the more it hurt you to get labor.

    Advice to Management

Learn to work with employees not against them. I was bullied and no one did anything to help. A very evil take over my last yr. fired or demoted the whole stores foundation of dept. n leads. HR can't do anything if it's run by the inner team. They will be frowned upon and probably demoted if they stand for the truth of the matter at hand. From bulling to descrimation to sexual harassment in my 26 years of service. Rough times.

Some supervisors aren't clear as far as discipline with employees.

Be a little more stern with employees.

    Pros

Healthy growing company with very solid position in the Food Retail market on the east coast. Opportunities to grow professionally in newly merged company will be plentiful. Truly cutting edge with well established PeaPod on-line grocery shopping division.

    Cons

Centralized approach to marketing and merchandising often in conflict with very local nature of grocery retail leading to sub-optimal results. Organization structure inhibits optimizing synergies of brick & mortar, on-line and local marketing opportunities facing individual stores.

    Advice to Management

Recognize current organization structure does not allow the flexibility necessary to effectively compete with very strong, local food competition.

    Pros

Great incentive. A lot of overtime. Great benefits. Health care was top of the line.

    Cons

End of day always changed. Long days. Early mornings, loss of incentive happened to often. More pto

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing. Listen to employees more. Offer more ways to not lose incentive.
