I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fairly good benefits with medical, dental and vision care. The paycheck deductions increased yearly while benefits decreased. They did have a profit sharing at the time ong with bonus which was rare at time.

    Cons

Bank senior management really did little to mitigate the risks in mbs and debt obligations products. When they secured their bailout from the BOE, instead of cutting and review profitable business lines, the culture was such that nothing was wrong. Staff continued to fly around the world, wasting capital resources when a video conference call would do.

    Advice to Management

I think the boat has sailed on this one. Hire consultants who can determine what cap market business lines should be kept and drop the rest.

I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time

    Pros

Employee's are much more laid back, and easy going compared to other firms

    Cons

-Morale is down with the extreme downsizing of business
-The firm is restructuring their focus on UK clients

    Advice to Management

Management has gotten much better at laying off employees, but I would be greatly concerned on the skills of senior management

I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and the team are great. And stamford is a nice place to work.

    Cons

Working on the investment banking side was depressing because of the pending restructuring of the north american banking business. A lot of people left during my first few months on the job.

    Advice to Management

More clear vision of where the firm is heading wouldn't hurt

I have been working at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time

    Pros

Benefits are good, especially health insurance. Most people are friendly and try to be helpful

    Cons

I would Google the company and then infer what the culture is like here. Yes, that bad.

Headcount is aggressively being reduced. They are looking for any reason to fire people.

    Advice to Management

All the spin in the world doesn't help. Morale is bad here. I would say more but what is the point.

    Pros

Generous vacation policy, low pressure. Company still has amazing products that are legacy from ABN Amro days.

    Cons

Focus on a sustainable path to profitability to ensure that you can retain a multitude of talented employees by A) compensating them fairly B) Treating them with respect
