I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time

    Pros

Nice building with great entities. Laid back attitude shared by all staff levels where getting work done is not a priority. Work life balance very manageable.

    Cons

Company has been operating basically bankrupt for years but doing everything possible to act like they're not until year end review time when they remind you how bad the company is doing and why you get no raise/bonus/promotion because of it.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and accept the situation the company is in

    Pros

Work-life balance is great, benefits are average. Stamford location is great if you live in Connecticut. They have their own duty-free shop on the 8th floor, which is nice.

    Cons

Uncertain future, never try to park your car in the garage after 9:30am, although that might be getting better with all the lay offs.

    Advice to Management

Make up your mind on the US Investment Bank strategy, clearly convey it to the employees and move on!

    Pros

Great culture. Great people and work environment. You are able to move internally and solid work life balance.

    Cons

Not good pay and barely any bonus and lowest compared to other banks. Slowly exiting US and Asia. Exiting many businesses so learning is not the greatest.

    Advice to Management

Not much they can do. Really just try to keep people happy which I found is done in most groups.

    * Few banks where you can easily get done with 40-45 hours per week
    * Good benefits and good office facilities

    Cons

    * No scope for growth
    * company on a downward spiral
    * Stagnant workforce who have been around for too long

    Advice to Management

    * Hold onto your best people. If not, they will move on.

I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked at RBS in their New York office. I really liked the people I worked with and looked forward to having an illustrious career there. One of the benefits to limited leadership is the opportunity to develop yourself.

    Cons

Your career can be stunted as management is really petty and there is no real structure for succession planning. HR sucked and all the prime benefits went to the UK expats. Management didn't listen to employees about developing the company and how to grow a better firm.

    Advice to Management

    Develop your employees.
