    Pros

    Extremely talented coworkers and ability to rub shoulders with experts at other financial institutions. Adds weight to your resume for future jobs after you leave.

    Cons

    Leadership is absolutely inept. They put in a gazillion hours and are promoted for loyalty and willingness to be married to the firm. Not for people management abilities or process engineering prowess. The firm is fraught with scandals and is a very abrasive/rude work environment.

    Advice to Management

    Promote people management skills and don't bonus top brass only. Culture matters as we have to go to work every day for 10+ hours and get yelled at all day every day.

    Pros

    - PTO (22 days);
    - Cafeteria;
    - If you live in CT, you don't have to commute to NYC.

    Cons

    The whole corporate culture. Very few people care about what they do there. Very slow processes, what can be done in 2-3 weeks at another company will take months at RBS. Very low discipline. I was shocked when one of the departments (IT networking and telecom) confirmed 4 meetings in a row and just ignored them, nobody showed up. It is a very "political" environment, some teams pursue their own interests only and sabotage initiatives, back-stabbing happens. As the company is (mis)managed from the UK, you won't be empowered and won't have professional opportunities at the US office.
    If you like getting things done, if you expect peers to be responsive and responsible, this is NOT the right environment for you. Beware.

    No advice. We all know you don't care.

    Large company with global opportunities

    Cons

    With multiple lines of reporting, the values and direction from management are often conflicting. There are multiple levels of bureaucracy and unnecessary complexity built into everyday processes to to point where nothing gets accomplished. The corporate culture is one that places value on covering your butt instead of working together to get anything done.

    cafeteria food was pretty good

    Cons

    Bank was in deep trouble with regulatory entities. Bank is losing copious amounts of money. Layoffs are extensive. Morale is poor. Remaining employees are working 10-12 hours a day

    Give up, sink the ship

    Scary place to work. You can't trust a soul here. Their greatest skill is telling half-truths.

    close the bank and return all assets to Her Majesty's Treasury.

    Pros

    Vacation package is extremely generous compared to other banks and 401K is at least on par with the industry. . .

    Cons

    Where to start... When they recruited me for the analyst role I was promised a lot. However, I ended up doing the work meant for two people because so many people have left the bank. This would normally be fine but then after working extremely hard and getting an excellent end of year review, I got no raise or bonus due to "cost cutting measures", but I was already being paid below the industry norm (This happened to everyone I spoke to). Definitely working 9 to 5 from now on.

    Furthermore, there are senior level employees who are given senior level compensation in roles that the bank doesn't need anymore. However, this isn't surprising because it seems those who underperform, or are a huge distraction and nuisance to other workers, get the same treatment as value added, hardworking employees.

    Everyone here is just counting down the days until they can find a new job - except for the overpaid senior execs who get awarded all of the bonus money for the hard work everyone below them does.

    Advice to Management

    Stop cutting costs by not giving yearly raises and taking away employee benefits, and instead focus on getting rid of all the dead weight at the senior level.

    If you want to keep your young employees, reward them and acknowledge their performance. Stop paying for expensive training courses that don't help our jobs, and instead put the money you would save towards our compensation.

    The less you work the better you will be compensated.
    Plenty of opportunities to take on new roles since everyone is leaving.

    Cons

    NO growth opportunities even though the senior management team keep pushing people priorities.
    No transparency on pay or bonus determination.
    Everyone is leaving or thinking about leaving.

    Advice to Management

    Be upfront with your employees who have committed to help save a sinking ship.

    Staff are nice and friendly.

    Cons

    8 years into their 5 year plan to turn things around. Now the latest is to pull out of the US. Although all fines stem from the UK, the US is the scape goat. Rumor has it that the entire bank will be on 1 floor and may close up shop by end of 2016. Shame, use to be a nice place to work at but the past 8 years has left staff wondering when they'll be downsized too.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to staff and listen when they advise you of issues.
