"Opportunity for a new foreigner from the developing world to earn a very basic living in the western environment."

    Pros

Overall, for a non-graduate this would serve as a base to acquire some work experience. The basic pay package is better than most firms in the UK, which explains why many foreigners start-up with this company.

    Cons

Conversely, for graduates of non-UK institutions who generally find themselves working here, feel and are 'trapped' in the environment which is a 'dead' end job situation for them.

I worked at Royal Mail full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was close to home. No other pros.

    Cons

Terrible senior leadership. Poor leadership. Little strategy. No career development. I found this to be quite a sexist environment.

    Advice to Management

Start managing your teams and developing talent. Stop the nepotism.

I have been working at Royal Mail full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are not many. The pay is good for what it is and it's nice to get out of the office, managing your own time and meeting all sorts of people. Camaraderie between staff is good. It keeps you fit.

    Cons

No promotion opportunities, most front line managers are overpaid, unqualified supervisors who constantly use threatening/bullying tactics and lie to staff to get them to work overtime, treated with contempt if you phone in sick.

Temporary part timers are used and abused regularly, pressured into doing more than they should with the constant threat of no contract renewal in a few months time. Family friendly seems to be a myth as parents are penalised if their children are ill. I could go on...

    Advice to Management

I have witnessed line managers who fraudulently pay themselves overtime, disgusting bully boy behaviour towards employees, and a couldn't care less attitude towards health and safety. There are no opportunities for personal growth and the constant drive for efficiency should now be focused on management of all levels.

I have been working at Royal Mail part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very poor management skills especially of people that have any form of disability. Use heavy handed and bullying tactics to quiet people.

    Cons

Money good for jobs but nothing else.

    Advice to Management

    New management required.

I worked at Royal Mail part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best thing is the possible early finishes. Though these are slowly dwindling as more and more people are given more work to fill up there time for being efficient.

    Cons

Delays in receiving the mail. Managers who act like they have your best interests in mind but are only trying to save their own skin. Some rounds that are just too big, others that are too small and managers that have no idea of how the rounds are. Inefficient sorting methods for mail at delivery offices. Poor work clothing. Why is there not some sort of breathable fabric (like climacool) for the summer?

I worked at Royal Mail part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am honestly struggling to think of any... some of the people that worked there? but that's just a generic cop-out.

    Cons

From the initial interview, which was terrible as the interviewer had a pair of trousers and a white shirt (no tie) unbuttoned half way down like Simon Cowell and didn't was void of a personality. I then wait 12 days before I am contacted (which was by email) and then go in for my induction day. I was told to watch a video which was about health & safety, and that was it, go follow a postman for a week and you are on your own. The management speak to you like dirt and tell you if you don't like it, go find another job. I was told this was a part time job which finished at 3pm (which suited me fine as my son had just started school and means I was able to go pick him up), but was told on the first day I have to work any OT that I am told to or I'll fail my probation? At that point I walked out.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff like human beings.
