I have been working at Royal Mail full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to grow with a lot of dead-wood managers being managed out of the business. And you get well protected as a grad

    Cons

A lot of inaccurate reporting and "favours" preventing the progression of the business. Need to have strong communication skills or you'll suffer

    Advice to Management

    Motivate and protect whistle blowers

    Pros

Not many. Lots of overtime as high staff turnover. Good salary and clean environment.

    Cons

Full time work but kept on 0 hour contracts for over 3 years. Expected to meet all the same targets as the contracted staff with none of the benefits or job security. Very high staff turnover as is a very depressing place to work. Not a place to work if you want to help customers as the focus is on getting them off the phone as soon as possible giving them as little information as possible. This is not a job for a person who enjoys customer service.

I worked at Royal Mail part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The job itself was a good job, finished early most days before 2pm, when the suns out its great in shorts and a T and keeps your fitness levels up, the pay was ok too.

    Cons

Winter isn't the best, the managment I had was terrible, they used and abused staff at every opportunity they could, i.e. If you didn't work a day that they wanted you to as overtime they would reduce the hours the would offer you in future, they bent over backwards for the full time employees.
The contracts they gave me where as follows. For the first 18months I was on a 8hr sat only contract but averaged around 48hrs a week after 18months went up to 25hrs a week split over 5days (5hrs a day) with overtime averaged 40hrs ish a week up to around 24month point, then the hours were cut to around 33hrs a week if you were lucky. There was a national agreement with Royal Mail and cwu that when you worked 6months they would review the contract to match the hours that had been worked, this never happened even though it was brought to their attention numerous times. I was one of many that this affected, they saved tons of money on holiday pay, sick pay and even bonuses. I would hate to still be there because it caused so much stress and worry.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees right and fairly, if they are part time full time or even agency workers, you make enough money as a business to still employ people correctly, so sort yourselfs out
