I have been working at Rudolph Technologies full-time

    Pros

Some very smart people in the company, and interesting products and technology to work on.

    Cons

Multiple acquisitions has led to isolated locations, poor communication, and very little team building across sites

    Advice to Management

Invest in employees! Many are treated like they are easily replaceable. Experienced sales, service, and engineers are discounted too easily. And when bad decisions are made at the Executive level about projects or company structure, nobody is held responsible.

Put more resources in place to grow the business domestically and worldwide

I worked at Rudolph Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Positive, friendly work environment. Fascinating equipment. Interesting technology challenges. Good middle-management. Decent benefits. Opportunities to visit semiconductor fabrication plants around the world.

    Cons

Layoffs. Senior leadership has a long history of laying people off after over-promising to Wall Street, even if the company was profitable in that quarter. It's short-sighted and hurts the long-term goals of the company, not to mention the job security of the employees.

Senior leadership is uninspiring, demanding, and out of touch with the average employee.

Failed acquisitions. Senior leadership is very eager to grow through acquisitions, but they just closed 2 failed ones. It's a lot of churn and uncertainty.

Remote offices. It can be painful to work with offices scattered around the country and globe.

    Advice to Management

Understand and heal the divided mentality between the remotely-located business units. Lead the market by developing outstanding technologies from within. Work harder on attracting very talented people, in part by offering better job security.

I worked at Rudolph Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very talented individuals working to provide a variety of metrology and manufacturing tools and software across the semiconductor manufacturing space.

Fun committee plans regular events for employees, BBQ, games, picnics, etc.

    Cons

Lots of products across a diverse market space leads to more projects than can be completed in a timely fashion with the resources available

    Pros

My immediate supervisor was extremely understanding

    Cons

Harsh economic conditions created a lot of pressure on everyone at work.

    Advice to Management

Start a Q&A session where worker's concerns are addressed.

    Pros

The Semiconductor industry is a fast paced environment. Rudolph Technologies has adapted well to the environment by being a nimble company. Rudolph has made some good acquisitions in this time - this has allowed for some good growth opportunities.

    Cons

There is a little too much of a small company feel here - by this, I mean favoritism, promotions based on individual preferences, not always based on merit. The upper management is a little too absorbed in padding their own wallets rather than looking out for the interests of the employees.

    Advice to Management

More focus on pure product management, focused product development. Hire and keep employees and managers who have delivered results vs. managers and employees who spend time sucking up to higher management.

    Pros

Known as one of the great companies to work for . Great and friendly HR, its policies and benefits. Really compassionate about employees and very few cuts even during the severest downturns. Lot of talented and friendly people to work with, over all great environment

    Cons

Getting too ambitious in pursuit of beating KLA, too many acquisitions and mergers , unable to concentrate on core technologies, very few growth opportunities and prospects because the company is shrinking.

    Advice to Management

Need to be concentrate on core products and what the customer needs. Needs more control over customer support and provide more opportunities to talented individuals

    Pros

    Exposure to cutting edge technology.

    Cons

The semiconductor industry performance has been poor the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Recognize job markets are not equal between locations. Retaining talent and loyality does require different approaches to operation and incentive other than a 'one approach fits all'.
