    I worked at Ruiz Foods full-time

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers are willing to help at all times.

    Cons

    Lower Management needs to brush up on their people skills.

    I have been working at Ruiz Foods full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits - vacation/sick pay and great insurance.

    Cons

    The values the company had when managed by family are no longer. The work/family values have been replaced with sometimes tyranny. Executives are allowed to make your life miserable.

    Advice to Management

    Look at your ratings in the last year or two. They went from 4-5 stars to 2-3 stars. Family needs to talk to the team members. The original family values no long apply.

    I have been working at Ruiz Foods full-time

    Pros

    * Good benefits
    * Not high pressure
    * Only have to deal with maintenance/mechanical issues.... not expected to work as a janitor to "keep busy" if production is going well and there are no maintenance or mechanical needs.

    Cons

    * No paid sick days
    * Only 3 non-paid PTO days a year and then they are only applied at the rate of one per quarter.
    * Impossible to advance. To advance you are required to complete a computer based computer program. It hasn't worked since I have been employed there. Constant excuses as to why they cannot get it fixed. Even so, one employee completed the course long before I was hired and still has not been given the pay raise he was supposed to . Expect to remain at whatever pay rate and level of mechanic they hire you at.

    Advice to Management

    Stop micromanaging... allow mechanics to apply their knowledge.

    I have been working at Ruiz Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Love the benefits! However, the atmosphere is cold, and the people are not friendly. It seems you can not please the leads/supervisors no mater how hard you work.

    Cons

    Not enough time off! Promised every other weekend, and in 2 years I have maybe had 4-5 months that was true.

    Advice to Management

    Lead with a smile! Continuous complaining dampers everyone's mood and makes for a depressing, long shift.

    I worked at Ruiz Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The people are the best reason to work here: smart, committed, and hard working. The hours can sometimes be long, as is true anywhere, but at least you get to work with talented and engaged people. Ample opportunities to work with top executives to let your talent shine and be recognized. Oh, and the on-sight cafeteria serves an outstanding chile verde!

    Cons

    Finance can pull some cyclically long hours based on recurring tasks throughout the month or one-time ad hoc analysis demands.

    Advice to Management

    Staff up to share the load.

    Pros

    Fair hourly pay rate and good benefits.

    Cons

    We work under the constant threat of being written up or even suspended for a day or more if we speak up against the way we are treated. I am currently seeking other employment as well as several other people in my department.

    Advice to Management

    Replace your HR department. When we ask for something they act like we are putting them out and interrupting their day. I thought HR was supposed to HELP the employees. The HR department passes out surveys at our monthly Birthday gatherings. They track who says what and anyone that complains is dealt with severely. HR just fired the Executive Assistant in the front office for trying to bring the HR issues to the light of the owners. I've never seen morale this low in a company of this size. The Ruiz family has no idea of just how bad things are in Denison.
