I worked at Rural King full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Unique retail items. Good benefits. Some really great people.

    Cons

Expect one person to do the job of two. Little to no incentive to go above and beyond. Mom and pop mentality. A lot of Management can use more training on how to motivate employees.

I worked at Rural King (Less than a year)

    Pros

In my 6 years there I have seen some good people come and go. I've made some good friends. The discount was nice. The turkey was nice. The distance from my house was nice. As you can see none of this niceness has come from management on a store level.

    Cons

In the said 6 years I worked there we had 9 managers and with each one the treatment of the employees got worse and worse. The work load they put on the dept managers and what regular employees they have is ridiculous. I'm not sure who pushes them to work their guts out but its not right. And the quote " I appreciate everything you do" is a crock of crap. They appreciate nothing because as one always says "That's your job" sure give me the job of 3 people. You want to talk about Equal treatment? Ha! There is none, either you're in the click or your not. I chose not to be in the click and quit. The managers don't have the (you know whats) to let someone go. They have their lackies do it . Coward.

    Advice to Management

Get someone in there that can treat all employees the same no favorites. Make each employee do their job instead of pawning it off on someone else just because they are in good with the boss. Everyone including management needs to read the handbook. Hire more people. I think the welfare of your employees and the store would benefit greatly if you hired at least three for each dept and not drag them out of their dept to do load outs. KEEP YOUR DEPTS COVERED!! No you dont do that and never have. Because you wouldnt get as much of a bonus if you had more employees . Corporate needs to give these stores more hours which in turn you'd have a cleaner neater store and a lot less theft. No one can watch them because they are always dragged off doing something else in someone elses dept. I truly hope you are using this store for a tax write off because until you do something thats all its going to be

    Cons

Poor communication skills. I found out from another employee that I had been let go, and when I finally talking to management about it... they lied and told me all seasonal hires had been let go.

    Advice to Management

    Communication is key.
