    Pros

Customers bring their animals in to the store and make it fun. Workload is reasonable for retail with common sense expectations.

    Cons

Incoming freight can be heavy at times but is improving as company grows and gets better. It is retail, so schedules are 7 days a week.

I worked at Rural King full-time

    Pros

    associate discount
    turkey on Thanksgiving
great if you're a people person

    Cons

    working every holiday
    working every weekend
    unrealistic expectations

    Advice to Management

I was management. The expectations set for every store are unrealistic. New programs on a weekly basis and not enough Associates to execute them. Budget hours need to be increased. I often had no people to cover the floor. What are you going to tell the customer other than that you're sorry? Theft by customers is unbelievable, but again no coverage to deter it. Stop expanding and take care of the stores that you do have. Why would anyone work for minimum wage as a cashier if nearby Sam's is paying $1.50 more per hour?

I have been working at Rural King full-time

    Pros

Always something to do, fast paced, every day is different

    Cons

If your store does poorly they overlook every employee when higher positions open up, the outside inventory crew is terrible and very inaccurate and the store employees take the blame for the mistakes of the inventory crew. It's rare to hear the manager say thank you or good job.

    Advice to Management

Notice hard work, appreciate your best workers, don't push the work of a bad employee off onto a good worker, enforce the rules across all employees....not just the ones on the floor, favoritism doesn't work in the workplace

I worked at Rural King full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Decent pay, fast growing company.

    Cons

Management says things like "I know I'm a slave driver, but..." and you will have to deal with their mistakes, meaning, moving products to the wrong department, only to move them back where they were originally. Also, Dept Mgr just means full time. You do not manage anything, or anyone. God help you if you wear nice jeans, I got threatened with termination over 1 time.

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like everything is a life-threatening emergency. I'd hate to see what your blood pressure/heart rates look like.
