I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Important work: Most clients are stellar charities who do cool work. Kind staff: Most folks beneath director level are getting paid below the industry standard for their job titles and / or experience. This is mostly because the work is "feel-good." so it attracts delightful people. I personally adored my team and my manager. Ethics: I was never asked to do something outside of my ethical comfort zone. All of our ads...

    Cons

Out of Touch Within Agency: The upper echelons do not seem to have a good gauge on the daily morale and goings-on of the lower-level folks. This results in some unpopular policies. Pay: As noted, RR pays well below the industry standard. Specific Experience: Charities are risk-averse, so we don't get to do anything truly groundbreaking. RR is behind on the digital front, because nonprofits lean into print for their...

    Advice to Management

--Work harder to ensure your employees that surveys are truly anonymous (and stop sending out summative emails outlining which departments haven't completed it). This will give you more useful feedback. --Little things can be done to hold on to your young folks: check-in more frequently about workloads. Don't have loud parties in the shared workspace while the lower-level folks are still working hard. Don't turn off...

I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - casual/comfortable work environment - fun-loving coworkers

    Cons

    - very low pay (much, much lower than average in LA area) - less than 5% annual raise with very little bonus - upper management lack knowledge and skills - very little innovation and resistant to changes

I have been working at Russ Reid Company

    Pros

Good culture and people. Summer Fridays are awesome.

    Cons

The pay is way below the industry average. It feels like everyone dislikes their job but stays because they are comfortable.

    Advice to Management

None...maybe just raise the pay to decrease turnover. A lot of people are leaving lately.

    Pros

    Good culture and work/life balance

    Cons

SEVERELY underpaid for the work we do.

    Advice to Management

Pay yourself less and pay the people who do the day-to-day work more money.

I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Russ Reid was a great place to grow and learn - so many opportunities for those who want to work hard, pay dues, learn in the trenches. Reward is there for those who contribute to success.

    Cons

Honestly, there were none I could recall. Management takes a lot of heat here on Glassdoor, but that's from folks who take things out of context and have zero management experience.

    Advice to Management

Do more to cultivate mid-level talent so those just starting out can see the value of investing with the agency for the long term.

I have been working at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working with nonprofits who want to change the world. There are also pockets of great people you'll meet and make lasting friendships with.

    Cons

For an agency that services nonprofits, Russ Reid is dysfunctional, heartless and unethical. Steer clear of this shady, horribly managed agency that specializes in a dying medium. Russ Reid is old school and way behind on latest trends. This agency just can't seem to catch up. Ever. Russ Reid innovates at a snail's pace because the same geriatric higher ups are still calling all the same geriatric shots. Don't let their...

    Advice to Management

Really consider cleaning house now within your dozens and dozens of SVPs, VPs, Executives etc. (It seems like everyone and their mother's cousin is an SVP or a VP at Russ Reid.) Stop laying off employees that actually do the work just so you can keep your own cushy jobs. Trying to create efficiency also applies to upper management. You'll be amazed at how much better the agency will run when you hire the right people...

I have been working at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-RR's big enough that there are lots of people to get to know and initiatives to get involved in, yet small enough that you can build deep relationships and take more ownership on projects than you could at a bigger, more bureaucratic organization. -I LOVE the people I've met at RR- smart, caring people who generally joined RR because they want to make the world a better place. One of the big reasons I moved into...

    Cons

-The agency is in the midst of a lot of transition, which is understandably difficult at times in the day to day experience of an employee. Change is hard! And we're going through a lot of change right now. -The agency's had a solid track record of success but is now at a point where it's looking to reinvent some aspects of our business model and culture. I think positive changes are in process and ahead, but I think...

    Advice to Management

Prioritize our employees, our culture and our innovative spark just as much as you prioritize efficiency and accuracy. Keep on doing the little extra things that make RR a special place to work. :)

I have been working at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working for clients who affect significant change in their city, state, country, world!

    Cons

UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP One half of the business just experienced significant upheaval in the client services department. And while change is necessary for an agency that is still incredibly reliant on a slowly dying medium, the way in which the change was orchestrated is indicative of a leadership team that views its employees as disposable pawns. Employees were lied to about layoffs that were already being planned....

I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are some fantastic things about working at Russ Reid. It was and is a great place for driven people to develop their skills doing some good. Significant drawbacks exist, but this positive fact is still true. While some management is focused more on sales than employee development, the general supervisory culture is either genuinely dedicated to improving the lives of their employees, or forced to by systems like...

Entry level people, be careful. If this is your first job after college, you're about to take much less money. You're also about to put yourself on a slower track for money (for years to come). You'll learn a good amount if you don't wash out, but is that worth it? This is especially true for you if you are in client services. If idealism is the reason you're going to work here - consider that you'll be working...
