I worked at Russ Reid Company

    Pros

The workers are some of the best and brightest in the industry. Hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, creative and very caring. I made a lot of close friends and it was an honor to work with these people. They give their hearts and souls to the clients (non-profits doing important work in the world.)

    Cons

Management is stuck in an impossible position of delivering on unrealistic goals, with too little training and far too much pressure from the upper management team. Upper management seems to be concerned only with profits and making their numbers, with little concern for the people who actually do the work. The often repeated company line is: "our employees are our most important asset", but this is NOT borne out with...

    Advice to Management

Staff the department adequately, rather than continually asking a shrinking staff to deliver on an ever increasing workload. Provide adequate training for the positions that you put people in, rather than allowing them to fail as you watch. Actual mentor-ship only happens for a very few chosen few (the "golden children" that have curried favor with the elites.) If you are not "connected" you will never get anywhere.

I worked at Russ Reid Company

    Pros

    * Powerhouse when it comes to direct mail for nonprofits * Some genuinely good coworkers who are passionate about their job and helping nonprofits * Awesome clients

    Cons

    * Machine. Lower levels get treated like workhorses while upper levels sit in meetings all day. * Management seems to value sucking up and over hard work and dedication. * If you're on the client services side of things, don't expect to be able to give much creative input. * Some poorly trained supervisors.

    Advice to Management

    * Allow lower levels to have some input in creative/planning meetings. * Don't just preach about work life balance, provide it. * Better qualified supervisors and leadership who are not just trying to prove themselves. * Listen more to the needs and desires of your clients instead of trying to shove the "Russ Reid" proven way down their throats.

    Pros

Great people. Great work. Good benefits.

    Cons

Depending on your position... work/life balance can be out of whack. Lots (and lots) of long hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep innovating.

I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time

    Pros

Fantastic place to learn and grow for entry level employees. Coming out of school you are are expected to work extremely hard, long hours in a fast paced, overwhelming environment. If you survive it, you will actually learn a lot about direct mail and fundraising. Great Benefits - Summer Fridays, monthly chair massage Working with non-profits

    Cons

Extremely low pay for an agency environment Long hours High expectations for growth/performance Frequent layoffs - when the agency isn't meeting Omnicom goals, the employees are the first to suffer. There is no loyalty to how long you have worked there. If your salary is to high you are fair game to let go. Years behind the trends in the digital space. Middle management is often under-qualified for their...

    Pros

People, people, people. Honestly, its the people that make this place a good place to work.

    Cons

Compensation can be tough here. You can be told that you deserve $X amount, but that because of our parent company and restrictions, you are only getting $X.

I have been working at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of perks: free downtown parking, rotating months of shoe shine service, massages, and manicures. Company likes to include everyone, having quarterly "townhall" meetings to keep everyone informed and the floor opened for questions. They provide a lot of learning opportunities from advertising to personal finances.

    Cons

As much as we try, there are still "silos", with teams not cooperating with each other.

    Advice to Management

There is little corporate representation in the office when they travel, as they seem to all travel at the same time. This leaves the office unable to work efficiently at times.

I have been working at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone you work with is more than willing to help you learn and achieve your career goals. From the moment I started at Russ Reid to over 2 years later, if there is something I do not understand or need more help with, I can count on any fellow employee to help me understand and master the process. The benefits are great and the opportunities to advance are there as long as you do the work.

    Cons

Hours can be long, but the idea of work life balance is pushed by managers.

I worked at Russ Reid Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Size of company what they do for non-profit organizations

    Cons

No movement, very hard to move into another position when most people have been with the company for 15 or more years. Making job growth hard.

    Advice to Management

Expand roles and more flexible with pay
