I worked at Russell Reynolds for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interesting projects, smart colleagues, continuous improvement mindset. Being able to work with top executives.

    Cons

Different job categories treated very differently, consultants are the kings, researchers, knowledge specialists and assistants not really cared for. Ways of working depend lot on the office, and project team. Knowledge sharing and management not on the level they should be, due to internal competition. Workload not planned and proactively managed, can be heavy. Big egos among consultants and researchers, quite hierarchical....

    Advice to Management

Researchers and assistants run the show, they should be given the credit they deserve. Incentives put on knowledge sharing.

I have been working at Russell Reynolds

    Pros

You have a very supportive office culture; clear paths for advancement; strong mentoring program for researchers and consultants; chance to work for a truly global firm; diversity in assignments and day to day activities

    Cons

    Coordinating communication with consultants around the globe; sometimes there are very short turn around times for deliverables;

I worked at Russell Reynolds full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some really great people in this firm, but they ultimately leave or turn into big headed, money hungry people.

    Cons

No career growth path, poor management, very old school way of thinking. Managers are not motivating but rather instill fear on lower level employees. Its a very up and out culture and unfortunately not many people move up. High turnover with a stiff/buttoned up culture.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees and they will feel invested in and want to improve the business and company. If there is an issue among the employees, address it publicly, don't pretend it does not exist. Don't have an "its their problem" attitude, one firm = everybody's problem. Don't reward bad behavior and consultants treating their EAs or Researchers poorly should NOT be tolerated, no matter how much business is generated....

    No opinion of CEO

    I worked at Russell Reynolds

    Pros

-deep knowledge gained for the practice you work in (Consumer, Industrial, Nonprofit, etc) -down-to-earth people were genuinely fun to work with -excellent knowledge sharing and intra-firm communication

    Cons

-Recruiters and Partners are the real business generators, so career advancement is tough when starting in research as an associate or consultant

    Advice to Management

-don't hesitate to solicit feedback from researchers on the way searches were handled, particularly ones in which the client was less-than-satisfied (which is rare, however)

I have been working at Russell Reynolds full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great team with a fantastic office manager and senior leadership team in London. Opportunities to work on some of the most interesting search and advisory work in the industry with some of the best head-hunters in the business.

    Cons

Intense pace of working with demanding consultants and clients. Opportunities for progression outside the traditional search business are minimal, although attitudes are changing...

    Advice to Management

Listen to people more and build relationships, transactional interactions are not the way to build trust and create a happy working environment.
