I have been working at Rust-Oleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits, some good people, nice culture, many volunteer/giving opportunities to help others

    Cons

Grossly understaffed with unrealistic expectations, people are STRESSED and overwhelmed, not only during busy times but all the time, morale is not great and getting worse, poor work/life balance, associates are working all the time and still can't keep up.

    Advice to Management

Lots of folks are leaving, address this publicly, act like you care, ask those who are still standing what's the problem or many more will leave. Many departments are overwhelmed. Either hire more help or adjust expectations. Upper management is too far removed from reality and employees challenges/needs.

    I worked at Rust-Oleum full-time

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Good benefits
A lot of smart people, natural leaders, most of whom are friendly
The company is growing so there are always opportunities for growth if you’re on the brand marketing team.
Other departments absorb more work of but never get more headcount to take on the work. This creates a bottle kneck and slows everyone down in the end.
Upper management claims to be seeking future leaders for their growing company. On the other hand, the CEO has said that he doesn’t care how smart you are, as long as you can put your head down and do the work. Great place to be if you’re a doer and prefer not to do the thinking.

    Cons

Unfair promotional structure. The close, inner circle surrounding the new VP of marketing are regularly promoted, rewarded, recognized. Others are not.

VP of marketing goes out of his way to exclude, belittle and/or not acknowledge the existence of specific teams within his own department. He makes no effort to be covert about his lack of interest in those teams either. People notice but look the other way.

Upper management spends a lot of time talking about how important culture is but people at the top are outwardly exclusive. They make it hard for new people to feel included. It’s a stuffy, “you can’t sit with/golf with us” type of culture.

    Advice to Management

It’s never too late to stop learning. Upper management in marketing could use a refresher on leading people and teams and creating an inclusive, unbiased culture.

Pay attention to the outer circle and look closely at what’s keeping them out. It may just be you!
