    Pros

Excellent county to teach in. Wonderful campuses and professional atmospheres.

    Cons

Too focused on testing. Students spend more time testing than learning new information.

    Advice to Management

Tell the federal government to shove it.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Rutherford County Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rutherford County is one of the best counties in Tennessee in many ways. The school system is no exception.

    Cons

Too many top-down mandates, but this is true in almost any public school setting. Some days one can hardly teach for all the other stuff that is required for teacher's accountability.

    Advice to Management

Leave problem-solving to the folks on the local/school level. Support from the top, lead from the bottom.

    Pros

Awesome kids, teamwork is encouraged, professional development opportunities, recent pay raise, retirement plans, insurance plans, zone exemptions for children of employees, training opportunities in Title 1 schools

    Cons

Pay raise is not as high as other counties such as Metro, retirement plan for new hires is not 401k, spouses are not covered by insurance if they are covered by their own employer

    Advice to Management

My advice is to remember that teachers need positive guidance. Lift them up. Don't forget about your time as a teacher.

    Pros

Support from coworkers. Great holidays. Decent benefits. Parents typically involved in education process. Good collaboration among schools in the system.

    Cons

Insurance premiums and benefits have gotten slightly worse. There could be better training and support for teachers. Summer break gets shorter every year.
