I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ryan really is a great place to work. The compensation, atmosphere, and opportunities for growth are all huge positives when working at this company. The bonus structure is extraordinarily generous for employees at all levels. However, I have never experienced or heard of another company that offers anything that can compete with the work-life balance experienced at Ryan.

    Cons

The only "con" is that the 401k plan could be better.

    Advice to Management

Brint, you've heard it before, the 401k plan is the only thing holding this company back from being the perfect place to work. Great job overall!

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1) MyRyan is a flexible work environment that allows freedom for employees to work in ways that are best suited for them to take ownership of their work product and meet the demands of their personal lives concurrently.
    2) There are plenty of opportunities for growth in your title as well as your compensation with hard and smart work. In a sense, you have the opportunity to control your own destiny at Ryan.
    3) Leadership at Ryan has done a great job of keeping employees laser focused, which promotes solid teamwork and friendship with fellow employees.
    4) Ryan has grown financially for 25 years straight and it does not appear that there is an end to this growth in sight.
    5) You will not get bored at Ryan. Working at Ryan gives you more than enough opportunity to stretch your mind in ways you may not have thought were possible.

    Cons

No job is perfect, but Ryan has shown the ability and willingness to listen to their employees' grievances and act on them in a way that would further improve their overall work environment. I do not have a "con" major enough to list here.

    Advice to Management

Keep on keeping on. While there are always things you can do to improve, keep on doing what has made this place such a great place to work for over 25 years!

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At the core of Ryan is a culture which empowers employees to work hard, achieve results, and to celebrate and share success. The MyRyan philosophy holds employees accountable for delivering results, but allows for a work-life balance which is unrivaled in the tax world. MyRyan allows for flexible work hours and the ability to work from home if a need arises. Less emphasis on face time, and more emphasis on candidly evaluating performance based on your work product.

Ryan has earned great respect in the industry for its expertise in challenging tax matters and it is an unmatched feeling to be trusted and valued as key assets by our clients. It is likely that you will gain exposure to numerous industries which enables a depth of experience that your peers at other firms may lack and keeps your work interesting. Ryan is a great place to begin your career in tax and the firm will give you all the tools necessary to succeed.

    Cons

The firm is currently experiencing record-breaking growth. The expectations placed on all levels of staff are high and you will be challenged. However, with growth and expansion comes an unmatched opportunity to achieve success and grow your career. This is only a con if you are unwilling to work hard, learn fast, and rise to the occasion.

    Advice to Management

Keep the course! It's a great feeling to be part of a winning team and I look forward to the exciting ride to becoming the global dominant brand in tax.

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I received a 3,000 bonus to start. It's in downtown Los Angeles easy accessible. Ryan pays for your parking and gym membership, but you never have time to go.

    Cons

You work 15 hours plus daily including weekends, so no family time.
Pay is below the standard 50k to start.
Good old boy good old girl place.
    Demotivating place to work for.
Management doesn't care, you have to brown nose.
    No good raises nor bonuses.
Managements culture is pretty bad. Stay away from this place. If you can don't work here

    Advice to Management

Pay more, make mandatory work 9 or less hours. Get rid of good old boy girl club

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-You are valued for what you think and the work product you create. The work is rewarding. It requires you to think and learn.

-You get to be the "good guy" recovering undue tax paid to ineffectively run governments and redistributing it to the client.

-Salary and benefits are competitive. Pays 80 percent of your cell phone bill, tuition reimbursement...

-Excellent work life balance. Work when and where you want to, just get the job done (depending on your manager that is)

    Cons

-Over aggressive growth targets. Since 1991, Ryan has achieved a year-after-year growth rate of 20 percent. This kind of growth rate is unsustainable for any company. To continue sustaining the 20 percent growth rate, Ryan has acquired companies that do not align very well with its business model (e.g., Thompson Reuters Tax Compliance). The added debt from these acquisitions has caused Ryan's culture to suffer by adding more stress to bring in revenue.

-The 5-year sabbatical benefit should be done away with. Upon reaching 5 years with the company, Ryan says it will let you take a 1 month paid sabbatical. The fine print however says you have to remain employed for one full year after taking the sabbatical, otherwise you will have to pay back the company one month's salary. And you also need to get executive level approval before taking the sabbatical. Just get rid of the sabbatical. It's not really a benefit when you have to jump through so many hoops to enjoy it.

-No Christmas parties anymore, really? "Of all the cheap lousy ways to save a buck!" - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

-401k match is decent, but still a little weak

    Advice to Management

-Reevaluate growth targets to achieve healthy, sustained growth. Bring back the Christmas parties. Bump up the 401k match. Revise or get rid of the 5-year sabbatical benefit.

Despite these suggestions, Ryan is an excellent place to work and provides tremendous opportunities for its employees. Ryan leadership is capable and listens to its employees. One of the reasons I respect Ryan leadership is that it's aware of its deficiencies and actively looks for ways to make improvements.

    Pros

Ryan provides great opportunities to grow and advance. I was offered many opportunities to advance early in my career. The work life balance is great. MyRyan is great and allows you to work more efficiently. I believe Ryan is moving in the right direction as a company and the people that I work with everyday are great. If you are looking for a company that offers work similar to big four firms for a higher salary, larger bonuses, and advancement opportunities, Ryan is a great fit. Come work with us!

    Cons

The hours can be long and intensive, however MyRyan makes the adjustment easier. It will take a year or two to start seeing bonuses, however once they start coming in it seems they come in every pay period after that!

I have been working at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The team structure used in the service delivery practices encourages camaraderie among work peers within your team. Challenging and stimulating work for the most part. From what I've seen and experienced, the company mostly honors the flex-time working style they promote. Upward mobility is pretty good, and the earning potential can be very high right from the start depending on what team you're placed on (due to bonus structure). Ability to have a good work-life balance is pretty solid; there are certainly times where crazy long hours are necessary, but it's sporadic enough to where it doesn't completely interfere with your personal life.

    Cons

Not too much to complain about, really. Each team does tend to handle things quite a bit differently, so the variances in how one's experience might be depends quite a bit on which team you end up on. Most teams do seem to be pretty good though. Even though Ryan is not a huge company, sometimes you still feel the burn of bureaucratic and mundane tasks that take time away from revenue generating work.

    Advice to Management

Management does a good job of striving for continuous improvement, and being receptive to employees ideas to improve.

I worked at Ryan, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Challenging and deadline-driven. It was nice to be trusted with such a great deal of responsibility so early in my career. I got to travel a handful of times and enjoyed the people I worked with. Everyone is very sharp and goal-oriented.

    Cons

Hours can be long. Additionally, you can pigeonhole yourself into very specific fields of tax, which ultimately, I didn't feel was good for my career in the long run.

    Advice to Management

Management seems to overlook work/life balance and overall satisfaction of their employees in order to fulfill personal revenue goals, especially near the end of the year. The firm also seems to be very top-heavy, with a huge reliance on the staff.
