I have been working at Ryan Specialty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

We pay above market comp and bonus. Since we're a small team, you have a lot of responsibility and get to work on a variety of projects. The company is still fairly new, so there's room for improvement everywhere; I feel I've been able to make a real impact. I've seen several talented people go above and beyond and get rewarded with promotions; career trajectory is good. I get constant feedback and review. Our team is great, both as people, and as finance professionals. Overall I've been very satisfied.

    Cons

The hours aren't great during quarterly close, but that's to be expected. Since the company has grown and changed so quickly, we don't have strong processes and documentation, which means a lot of learning by doing and trial and error; this can be inefficient.

I have been working at Ryan Specialty full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Building corporate function over the past 3 years, get exposure to senior level executives, gaining experience in all aspects of corporate functions.

    Cons

Fast-paced work environment does not work well for those who need constant oversight. Team members need to be able to act quickly and make decisions with little supervision.

    Pros

People are very friendly in the insurance industry in general and you get to meet a lot of cool people at happy hours which are fun.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

    Stop trying to act macho.

I have been working at Ryan Specialty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay, solid benefits, managers I have worked with are reasonable. Great location by the park. No micromanagement, so flexible work hours and vacation days are a blessing (for salaried employees over 100k).

    Cons

Conservative company culture, lots of acquisitions over the years which is somewhat chaotic, but not truly a "con". Quite disorganized structurally, with potentially competing business segments under the same corporate umbrella. Exacerbated by having many different offices throughout the US.

    Cons

unclear hierarchy, no visibility in management decisions

    Advice to Management

the leadership there is very undeveloped, management does not possess enough soft skills to manage their people...
