I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ryder has employees that have been working for the company for over 15 years, 25 years and even 30 years. This is good news because that means that Ryder values their employees.

    Cons

The transportation/ logistics industry is not doing so hot as of right now. Because of this RYDER has to make several big decisions to either down size the company or let several hand full of employees go in order to stay afloat during the down times.

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large established company that won't go out of business. First tier managers worry more about themselves and covering their own butts than getting their people's backs.

    Cons

Inside Sales viewed as necessary evil compared to outside sales. Internal customers harder to work with and collaborate than outside customers.

    Advice to Management

Put managers into management. Not just people that were good as Account managers. Very PC. Lighten up.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The inside sales jobs are an easy job. The pay is average. Ryder is a well established company that has been an industry leader since 1932.

    Cons

Poor morale. Worse management in the inside sales group. Very high school like in style. Prone to layoffs every time the stock goes down. Very political.

    Advice to Management

    Improve the morale.

    Pros

Monthly events geared toward improving moral and keeping things fun for the employees, some departments offer flex schedule and work from home options

    Cons

Management that blames employees for poor department performance, HR that does not know how to keep concerns brought to them confidential, unwillingness to promote from within; "old boys network" still in full effect when it comes to promoting

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees and provide them with opportunities to excel

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good healthcare benefits. Casual attire on Fridays. Convenient to multiple restaurants.

    Cons

The collections department in Alpharetta, GA is run like it is a prison. The managers lack professionalism, they have the slightest idea on how to communicate effectively to employees. They have doubled the work for the employees, yet expect them to maintain an acceptable scorecard. Out of a 40 person department, 16 people left within 16 months, and to date they have only replace maybe 6 people. Mostly everybody remaining is planning their escape plan. Moral is non-existent. The stress level in the department is overwhelming. Several people have gone out on stress leave due to the stressful environment.

    Advice to Management

Management really need to enroll in a professionalism enhancement class. They will indulge employees personal business among other employees. Hire more people so that the ones left will consider staying. Learn effective communication. Talk to your employees not at them. Try to concentrate on quality of work versus quantity. SHOW YOUR EMPLOYEES SOME KIND OF APPRECIATION.

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy, no micro management. The job is not demanding, great base salary, and easy to make commission. Director in the Shared Service Center is great and all team managers seem great to work for. Very glad I made the move to Ryder, I can see it being a great place to spend a career.

    Cons

401K not matched until 1 year. Benefits a little on the expensive side. Not too many cons in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, there is a reason Ryder always appears on Forbes top companies to work for.

    Pros

nice people, nice working condition, decent salary and benefits, not a lot of pros working at Ryder. They seem to be average on a lot of things.

    Cons

no accountability, lack of competency in IT, it's always been done like this mentality, lack of leadership, need more parking, old acquintated systems

    Advice to Management

Management needs to keep their employees accountable. You can't let deliverables go months sometimes years beyond the deadline.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ryder gave me the skills I needed to go from a technical background to an office background. They pay is decent however once compared to the high stress environment you may feel it is not worth it. If you must take a job here I would recommend staying a temp (no raise when they bring you on full time anyways) and using your new experience to search the market for better opportunities which hopefully would actually have a chance for advancement and promotes better leadership.

    Cons

The MMC is a very high stress environment. They tend to send you through minimal training showing you the bare basics of what they want done and you learn as you go with the expectations continuously fluctuating due to their customer's changing needs and little to no notice of said changes. They appreciate good workers however all employees are severely micromanaged and the point system used takes away any chance for job security. They will bring up issues from when you first started and use them against you in your reviews. The management shows up when they want and often push their daily assignments on the overworked CSC. Management also has a huge problem with picking favorites (I know this because I was one) I was identified as one of the most productive workers in the office however I was l let go 3 days after being hired on full time (They start you off as a temp for about a year) due to their point system. Don't even think about getting unemployment from them either. There are jobs with just as much pay with half the stress. don't belittle yourself and limit your potential.

    Advice to Management

Stop threatening to fire entire teams to increase productivity, Hold yourself to the same standards you hold your subordinates to, Stop passing blame from one manager to the next and take accountability for incidents, and get bent.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The working relationships created were definitely a plus

    Cons

    Good old boy networks; its not what you know but who you know; low salary paid for talent; HR allows petty unprofessional behavior for hourly employees;

    Advice to Management

In order to get your people to work for you, you must stand behind your people & not allow petty unprofessionalism from any of your employees no matter how long they have been in the position; should not allow any employee to disrespect what you say & continue to do things when you have to respond over & over. One time should be enough & the employee should know better.
