I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very flexible with time off
    Local position
    Multiple accounts to choose from

    Cons

    1. Zero Bluetooth policy - They expect you to drive in a truck for many hours and not talk to another human
    2. Random schedule - Even though its a local position you will never have a set schedule at Rite Aid account
    3. VACATION - You WILL NOT ACCRUE any vacation time the first year working here. It starts to accrue at YEAR 1 DAY 1.
    4. HR and other upper management lost or dont know policy on simple issues.

I signed up to do Tandem doubles ONLY. They later slip in AFTER youre working for them that you will be doing deliveries as well as the doubles route. They have three kinds and manual delivery gets paid the same as pallet pull offs. You touch every box on trailer and get paid same as a guy who has pull off loads? Crazy.

We didn't get paid per hour except for vacation/holidays etc, but they gave us a "hourly pay increase from 20.00 to 20.30". Pretty much a slap in the face, a raise in a category that rarely gets paid from.

    Advice to Management

Drivers want more than hundreds of flash lights and hats. We want pay increases, actual increases in per mile pay. Change your horrible bluetooth policy. Stop screwing new workers with your horrible vacation policy.

I worked at Ryder System (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to grow rapidly if you willing to work hard and then relocate.

    Cons

Be prepared to communicate to your manager that it's Ryder, Family and Faith. It's a company that frowns upon not putting them first in all parts of your life. The work, life and balance is quite complicated within this company.

    Advice to Management

Hire the person that has the experience and not the person that's ready to put Ryder first before their family. Unusual company but most employee's will tell you that work, life and balance is extremely difficult within this company due to the managers that are unqualified that received promotions within for playing politics.

    Cons

Shandy upper middle management, terrible communication, HR takes too long to do anything

    Advice to Management

Invest in human capital, prepare better training programs and start to look for employee contingencies, a lot of employees are on the verge of retirement

    Pros

Employee interface - Customer Interface - Equipment was newer- peer management worked together well trying to reach goals. I can't thing of many positives

    Cons

Work hours are long You are always on call and have to work weekends. There is no regard for work load. Upper management doesn't care how many hours your work load is

    Advice to Management

Accounts cancel and you can become unemployed overnight. Not a good choice for a long term career. Moving is mandatory for promotions.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you've given up on life, then Ryder is a GREAT Place to work.

    Cons

Ineffective management...many levels of people with no business intelligence at all. They know them there trucks though...

    Advice to Management

At the very least, take a remedial business course.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, good time- off policy, knowledgeable friendly dispatchers (if you get the right one). All in all not a bad company to work for if you like constantly going to Canada and long wait times for road service and loads.

    Cons

Lots of Canada (at least on the Xerox account); long wait for replacement truck if you break down; poor communication between load planners & dispatchers, loads often aren't ready when scheduled

    Advice to Management

Better communication between load planners & dispatch-dispatch was constantly having to call/email load planners to find out what plan was for the drivers. Dispatch should have the ability to do more than just pass along instructions; they should be able to make some decisions on their own.
Ryder company as a whole- better organization in Customer Response Center. Broke down twice needing replacement truck, each time they had bring a truck from 100+ miles away, resulting in approximately 6-8 hour wait for a truck.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent, benefits are fair, if you are female and able to get in the cliche with management you basically just have to show up everyday to get paid.

    Cons

Seasonal work, different rules for different employees, brown nosing skills are a huge plus with management, normally new rules that they put in place only last a week or so until everything goes back to normal

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees male and female the same.
