I worked at Rydon full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Opportunity to progress in terms of job title and training opportunities are there if you are consistent with presenting a case for it. Flexibility with working hours, again if you present a case. Retailer/gym discounts seem interesting.

      Cons

Revealing your skillsets will lead to more senior work once positive results are realised, but there is no acknowledgement. Tribal mentality leading to colleagues turning an eye to heavy bullying in some offices. You have to do as the populars do, speak how they speak, allow popular senior staff to make inappropriate and even racist comments, and not 'show off' by revealing you have logic or reason while solving simple...

      Advice to Management

Protecting upper management and colleagues you consider friends when continuous serious offences (particularly Health and Safety violations) keep being committed without effective follow up is unwise, an issue is bound to surface somewhere. Upper level management need budget training, staff deal with workloads passed down and around, with no valid reason other than lack of planning, ineffective market testing or passing...

      Pros

The best company I have worked for, very well trained and have appraisals every year

      Cons

Too far from home, although that’s not their fault

      Advice to Management

      Keep going as you are

I have been working at Rydon for less than a year

      Pros

Strong and passionate departmental team. Good departmental manager . Company has a good ethos and strong values - open door policy but also very professional. Good mix of longstanding and new employees.

      Cons

More integration required between divisions and departments . Long established teams stick together. Old and new cultures mixed into one.

      Advice to Management

      More departmental integration required

I worked at Rydon full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

I was with Rydon for over 5 years and they’ve been my most pleasant and content working years. The company has a real family feel without actually being a family firm. However there is a significant number of family members across generations being referred and recruited into the business, which is always a good sign. People are the best foundation of Rydon. Ive met some nicest, smartest people and made long term friends....

      Cons

Although head office facilities are great with newly fitted cafe/canteen are the location might be too remote for some. That was my reason for moving on in the end due to long commute

      Advice to Management

The same advise as to the rest of the construction industry - getting more women into business and training more girls.

      I worked at Rydon

      Pros

Interesting projects and ability to take ownership of own projects

      Cons

Old school management team, unwilling to listen to staff concerns and recommendations. Lack of agile/mobile working despite encouraging it across their customer base. Lack of use of new business processes such as hot desking and managers still isolated in offices to separate and distinguish them above their teams.

      Advice to Management

Listen to your staff, understand the benefits of processes and working practices you sell to your customers and embed them in your own office as best practice

      Pros

Family feel, the people are great to work with, some good benefits.

      Cons

Management can be negative and resistant to change. Some old fashioned practices still in place and needs to be more flexible.

      Advice to Management

Listen to people's ideas, be more open to using them to improve things and change.
