I have been working at S.P. Richards full-time

    Pros

The people are great. Many have been there for a long time and it is more of a family than co-workers.
SPR is never boring. There is always plenty to keep you busy and learning new applications, processes, businesses.

    Cons

The IT group is short-staffed, with sometimes unreasonable deadlines.
The headquarters buildings are a little ratty.
Some people have been there a long time and are resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

    Upgrade the offices.
Hire more people so the workload is something that can be maintained long-term.

    I worked at S.P. Richards full-time

    Pros

Nationally recognized brand which offers mobility if and when moving from one state to another. Great hands on experience on the inner workings of inventory management..

    Cons

Not much scope for mobility and tasks are repetitive and monotonous. Hiring practices borderline racist, as many well qualified minorities are readily employed for entry level positions but they are consistently overlooked for less or unqualified white workers for supervisory and management roles.

    Advice to Management

Review hiring staff and practices regularly. Many good candidates are forced to leave or are never given an opportunity to grow with the organization based on ethnicity. Show commitment by making hiring data available to all staff including the distribution of ethnicities across roles in the company.

I have been working at S.P. Richards full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The SP Richards DC Where I am employed is a good work environment. Opportunities to cross train in different areas, and train others based on your experience. The pay is good, and there is overtime.

    Cons

The workforce is small per shift, so time off, vacation days are limited to one employee off per day(s) scheduled including shift management. The hours are long when others have time off.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at S.P. Richards (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people. Solid support and tools given to do the job. Company car was nice. Computer systems provide good info but cumbersome.

    Cons

Training is poor. Ability to self - teach and have good computer skills is very important to have coming in. Very hard to change and fraught with some old school ideas. Very frugal company.

    Advice to Management

Make the sales team and operations team work better together. Don't worry about competition as much as just making SPR the best company out there.
