I have been working at S&P Global Market Intelligence full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Putting a positive spin on the disorganization, you learn about systems (people and technical) and how much the foundation of the system contributes to every part of the organization. If you are on a “good team” then you have a good manager who cares about your growth and you work with intelligent, motivated colleagues. 401K match is 100% for up to 6% of salary. When you can actually find time to focus on client relationships, those are rewarding experiences,

    Cons

In an effort to skip over the nonessential, I will number the cons (in no particular order) and be as succinct as possible. 1. HR/recruiters will lie about what your pay will be. When you receive an offer it will likely be for much less than what was discussed. This happens in sales/relationships management, product specialist, and product management teams. 2. Top talent is leaving in droves, especially in the commercial division (sales/relationship management) and on the technology side of the business. 3. If you speak to HR about any perceived problems, they will go directly to your manager with that information and you will undoubtedly be put under the microscope. 4. Capital IQ bought SNL, and now we are supposedly one company, yet most of the “legacy SNL” despise “legacy CIQ” and vice versa. 5. This is not a place to expand your career development. There are opportunities to work with other teams, but it is mostly surface level. Almost all “professional development” activities are really just specific to SPGMI - product and “diagnostic” trainings. 6. You are replaceable.

    Advice to Management

Address the problems: 1. Remove individuals from management positions who do not have the requisite skillsets. It’s no secret who these people are so take responsibility. 2. Stop promoting people to senior representatives just because they have been employed by the company for x-number of years.

I have been working at S&P Global Market Intelligence full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Established brand in the market.

    Cons

Company is in a constant state of restructuring so the focus is always on cutting costs and integrating data from legacy organizations. Cost cutting has led to shortage in staff so existing workforce is feeling the burden. Unrealistic goals also leads to bad morale. Management and the next level down show no interest in career growth. The attitude is "just work or quit, we'll find a replacement." Very toxic environment where you don't know if you're going or staying. Lack of communication breads uncertainty. Terrible time in the organization.

    Advice to Management

At a minimum, act like the people that work for you are humans.

    Pros

Compensation, Job Culture, Benefits, Profit & Share, 401K

    Cons

Management, Job Work/Life Balance, Job Security, Advancement, Job Culture

    Advice to Management

Don't believe what recruiters tell you about unlimited sick days and flex work hours as promised by recruiters no work/life balance be ready to work on weekends. Long work hours and unrealistic deadlines. Your benefits wont start till after a month if your lucky it took me almost 2 months to get everything setup and I was working in HR.

    Pros

Low expectations of delivering and no consequences for not delivering. Very relaxed atmosphere especially after the botched SNL Financial Acquisition. Tremendous amount of town halls that keep you well informed.

    Cons

Random targeting of employees to fire and moving headcount to off shore for cost savings. Jr employees live in a state of fear

    Pros

Pay is good for what you're doing. Very laid back environment.

    Cons

The company is on it's third executive committee in 12 months. Part of this included laying off good, hardworking people who had been there for years. On the west coast there is now a lack of management. People come to work drunk and high. Managers encourage this because they find it funny. Promotions are based on friendships, not merit. People consistently take naps in the office.

    Advice to Management

Fire the local management and start over. Encourage employees by showing that hard work is rewarded. Don't allow drug use in the office.

    Pros

    Great brand and generous benefits

    Cons

The president and her management team are clueless. Nobody in their right mind would employ any of them. Totally incompetent but living the high life with no regard for the hard working employees. They all need to go in order to save the business. Have never come across such a bunch of buffoons running a billion dollar business in my entire life.

    Advice to Management

House cleaning time for McGraw Hill. The sooner you get rid of these clowns the better.
