I worked at SAIC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Supported my educational endeavors even though they did not match the work I was performing. Took the time to mentor me and put me in customer facing roles.

    Cons

The vast majority of the work I performed was classified so very little could be done remotely and much of it was done in a lab without windows.

    Advice to Management

They had a very good management structure so I do not know of any advice I could give. The only issue I found was that it was difficult to transition to different positions within the company.

I have been working at SAIC full-time

    Pros

No shortage of work and good PTO benefits

    Cons

No growth plan, no desire to grow as an organization, and unrealistic expectations of how to attract talent.

    Advice to Management

Focus on results rather than an explanation of why are you are not producing. Listen to senior employees doing the work, and recognize SAIC makes money by filling jobs; recruiters are who fills those jobs and those drives revenue.

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Sharp, talented people and their strong ethics.

    Cons

Focused on the big wins only. Difficult for a new manager to start growing.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the entrepreneurial business concept where a manager can grow the business from a moderate contract

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management quality and support varies as with any large organization, and may be somewhat outside your control. My own personal experience has been great, but YMMV. For someone who is proactive and can network, a person may be able to move around as their career matures.

    Cons

Many different internal IT systems at play. Can be very difficult to get information about one's own program and role in the organization. Some of this is being addressed, but roll-out will take time.

I have been working at SAIC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

challenging atmosphere, most work is interesting, McLean facilities and location are good to work in, people are generally friendly

    Cons

lack of company focus, SAIC does a little bit of everything and therefore has a hard time building core competencies other than just systems engineering and integration. could be managed better, both from a top and direct supervisor levels

    Advice to Management

need to pay more attention to employee needs, not burn them out, and recruit higher quality people in order to continue to build business. need to be more agile and invest more in marketable capabilities

I worked at SAIC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

SAIC is a great company to work for. The leadership is mostly retired senior military officers so its a well run organization.

    Cons

Their business model was internal competition which pits different business units against each other to compete for opportunities. But you also hone your skills and you learn to develop business skills

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in McLean, VA

    I worked at SAIC full-time

    Pros

SAIC (split into Leidos and SAIC). Good benefits.

    Cons

Company's "good old boy" and "good old girl" network is alive and well. Management at all levels hire family and friends often to the exclusion of better qualified individuals. The managers and PMs collaborate to give their "family and friends" the best paying positions and protect each other when contracts end and people are losing contract coverage.

    Advice to Management

SAIC / Leidos managers only care about moving their own career forward. Any advice would be a lost cause.
