    Pros

They are hands off most of the time. This is a decent place to start a career though more in the cons.

    Cons

There is zero opportunity as a sub contactor to advance in any meaningful way. There is no pay differential for reserve or guard time which is common with defense contractors.

    Advice to Management

No advice they are a slave to the defence industry system they work in and they manage the best they can.

I worked at SAM, Inc. part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This was a relatively new company when I started. There were many college students that got hired around the same time from the University of Maryland for an "Office Intern" position. The CEO put a lot of trust in these interns and quickly assigned everyone to certain roles. I was eventually trusted with an upper management position. I gained a lot of experience working with government contracts and enhanced my leadership skills by managing about 4 interns. They also were very lenient if you needed to take some days off.

    Cons

It was very unprofessional. I have a hundred stories about the people I encountered while working here, and a bunch of stories about my experience there in general. From seeing markers thrown at employees to being interrogated by the FBI, I've seen it all here. Besides that, the pay was pretty low.

    Advice to Management

Please perform background checks on who you hire. Especially if that employee is going to be an accountant. Also monitor your interns.

I worked at SAM, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The major pro of this job is interacting with consumers and their families. Helping them gain access to tools, that will assist them in achieving all the day hope to achieve, is very rewarding.

    Cons

In my opinion, there was a serious lack of concern for situations regarding consumers. I felt money was the driving factor rather than the well-being of the people the agency is serving.

    Advice to Management

Try sticking to what you actually put forth in your mission statement!

I have been working at SAM, Inc. as an intern

    Pros

There was a big herd of interns hired throughout the month I was hired. At first we didn't do a lot of work, but eventually they began to separate us into groups. Only a few of the interns were taught anything useful, and they ended up being overworked and doing jobs actual full-time employees should have been handling. Most of the interns were terminated once their usefulness was up -- a lot of us were hired so the company could get a tax break.

    Cons

Management is absolutely terrible. In the College Park office there were only a few full-time employees, but most of them were either completely uninterested in the interns or treated us like slaves. There was a lot of confusion regarding who each intern reported to and a lot of the interns got away with doing no work at all.

I worked at SAM, Inc. as an intern

    Pros

There is a lot to be said for an internship at a small firm like SAM. Chances are, you will have the opportunity to take on a leadership role and work closely with senior operations.

    Cons

The downside of working at any small company is growth opportunity. At Sam, the internal controls could be more established. While ethics are kept intact, there are inefficiencies.

    Advice to Management

Along with establishing clear and lasting internal controls, SAM Inc's managers could do a better job of managing their interns, such that there is a steady progression, so when you do have the opportunity to contribute more, you can be confident in your work and management can be confident you are doing what they need.
