I worked at SAS Institute full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

You are allowed to work independently.

    Cons

Although training to update your skills is provided, the skills wither if you’re not given assignments using those skills.

I worked at SAS Institute for more than a year

    Pros

The work-life balance attitude at SAS is amazing. The benefits and services available to employees are fantastic. The work environment was supportive and relatively laid back. All of my teammates and supervisors were ready and willing to help me when a challenge arose that I couldn't figure out.

    Cons

The communication between HR personnel and Managers could be improved.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice campus, private offices, cafeteria, gym,...

    Cons

There are a few teams working crazy hard and productive, but many are cruising and enjoying life even if the boat is sinking. The management ran out of ideas of growing the company, so are busy with tangential stuff, reorg and politics to avoid the root issues. Seems more care about reducing cost than getting talents. Compensation package is old style.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Depending on the group there is a very collegiate atmosphere. The COO, Oliver, is fantastic. He is a visionary, understands and is capable of doing the work, inspires you to bring your best forward. He is a wonderful Motivational speaker and also the complete package of what you would want in a COO or CEO.

    Cons

Too many managers with an inward focus on their group and not looking outward for the good of the company.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The work - life balance is great. Coworkers are a joy to work with. On site doctor and cafes are nice to have. The development work is fun and I feel like I have a lot of control and input on what to work on.

    Cons

Financial benefits have started to slide a bit compared to the rest of industry. SAS as a whole doesn't take open source software seriously enough as a threat to market-share.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very low stress and nice coworkers, known for their great benefits and perks (although the rest of the industry has basically caught up to them)

    Cons

It is a large company and moves at the speed of a large company, You don't make as much as you would other places but you are paying for the work life balance and low stress environment

I worked at SAS Institute full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Free M&Ms Nice campus Great health insurance Can retire in place Nice people. Tolerant of everything except demands for accountability.

    Cons

Little opportunity to advance Horrible technical management tolerated. Little accountability Matrix management org. Managers can evade genuine software shortcomings by scamming priority settings. While nonsensical external "bugs" can be escalated based on $$$, internal bugs can be postponed forever. Infighting between teams, via abuse of internal bug reporting and prioritization, tolerated/ignored. Internal tools are non-standard and complex. Time spent learning is a career dead end. C is everywhere, and it's super non-standard. Almost no C++. Java work at least builds transferable skills, but the anointed get way much leeway to pad their resumes by foisting nonsense onto everyone else. The Agile infestation is alive and well here. A few sensible principles in theory, thoroughly perverted in practice, cynically misinterpreted and exploited by the usual rouges' gallery of hucksters getting paid for their "expertise".
