    Pros

You can sense when the leaders you work for sincerely care about the success of the company and the success of the individuals who spin the company's wheels. The government contractor business is far from well-oiled and perfect, but Carlos DelToro and his leaders of SBG pay attention to the most important aspect of its success, it's employees. SBG is in the early stages of its growth and maturity, but for being in this phase, SBG understands that being sincere with its intentions for its employees is what makes this company great! Fair pay, reasonable benefits, concern for employee satisfaction is the minimum that SBG addresses internally. I don't imagine growth for myself in other small contractor businesses. In SBG, however, I can imagine growth and I can plan it accordingly with my superiors.

    Cons

Being in the business this long, I know the most common cons for small contractor businesses. This one doesn't have any, and that's my honest opinion.

    Advice to Management

Just continue to always focus on the growth of the employees, as they are the ones who grow the business for SBG.

    Pros

Health care is paid by the company and that's pretty much about the only pro of working for SBG.

    Cons

I feel the need to add my thoughts given the more recent reviews clearly written by HR. As others have noted, this isn't so much a company as a retirement vehicle for the Del Toro family. It was a highly unprofessional organization based on nepotism. There is no where to grow or move in the company if you are not a family member or friend of the family. Management promises much but deliveres extremely little in terms of any type of career growth or development. There is no culture at this company as well. Any attempt to create any sense of a team was typically dismissed as too expensive. Managers were forced to pay out of pocket for even the smallest activities such as team or holiday lunches. If your idea of a career is to go to work, be expected to put in extra time (and be judged if you attempt to use comp time), do the same thing day in and day out with no advancement or training then this would be the company to work for. I'll also add that they make almost no effort to find other opportunities with the company at the end of your contract as well.

    Advice to Management

This company has potential but it's just so immature and unprofessional. You made a move in the right direction in hiring an actual HR professional who is making attempts to professionalize your company, stop dismissing their advice. An open door policy means nothing if you ignore the feedback you receive. It's not the same five person company being run out of a home office anymore and can't be run in the same manner.

    Pros

    - Teleworking (this is the only perk that raised the review to 3 stars) and flexibility. - Some members of management are dedicated to their employees - Individual health insurance is paid for in full by company and it is a decent plan

    Cons

    - Have to strongarm your way out of being pigeonholed into one category, despite qualifications or work history. - "yell first ask later" policy is prevelant throughout senior management, often siding with clients before even discussing issues or questions with employees. - clients rule the roost, no matter how badly they treat SBG employees or overwork them; don't expect SBG management to take a stand for their own. - Culture expectation to work overtime and always be available to interface with government clients without overtime pay or a salary that justly reflects the work completed. There is no enforcement of policies correlating with this and flexibility in schedules only occur if you work for understanding government program managers. - Most positions are admin heavy (meeting minutes, presentation development etc). - No career tracks or upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

    - Provide program and product managers with the support needed to draw a line in the sand with client relations. If there are documented issues that are verified, allow for that to be brought to attention. - Develop legitimate career tracks to retain talent and grow it in house. - Provide correlating work for those with advanced skills.

    Pros

The CEO truely cares about his people and recognizes hard work and dedication.

    Cons

Due to the company being spread out across the US, there aren't to many opportunities for promotion within the company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

Colleagues are nice. Some leadership (two younger VPs) are kind and really do try.

    Cons

This is a friends and family run organization. The CEO is a bully who has absolutely no business sense. He hires his whole family and their friends, and his former Navy buddies who have no clue what they are doing. The COO is a joke. Benefits are terrible and everything is extra. Only one that can sell is the woman VP who is treated the worst and has absolutely no help. They are cheap, no team building whatsoever, and no clear path to promotion or raises. They treat their employees like children in a sweatshop, and anyone good is looking to get out.

    Advice to Management

Complete refresh of management. Fire the navy cronies that add nothing. Get rid of your kids and your kids friends in positions that make no sense. Stop treating your employees like this.

    Pros

SBG is a small Federally focused consulting company with an impressive range of clients given its size. The company continues to go after and win contracts and looks to promote from within for those that are proving themselves in their work. The CEO is focused on creating a family atmosphere while positioning the company for continued growth. Management is committed to creating a flexible work environment.

    Cons

Many cons at SBG can be applied to most if not all Federal consulting companies. SBG is struggling to create consistent company wide communication so tele-workers or those on client site can feel removed from the corporate goings on. Additionally, the large number of these types of employees makes it difficult to identify a company wide culture. SBG is also playing catchup on maturing their internal processes given the rapid growth over the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Continue to balance promotions from within and key external hires to manage growth. Create more opportunities to incorporate remote staff.

    Pros

Health insurance was good, as it was fully covered by employer for an individual. This is the only perk I experienced of this company.

    Cons

    - Family first: this company transparently hires their senior staff from family members, military and/or work connections to the CEO. This high amount of unqualified individuals has created a culture of incompetence. - No growth opportunities or professional development structure. The company has a culture of keeping you in a box of the role you are assigned and will expect you to stay there for however many years of the contract. Do not expect a position after the contract is up either. - There are promises of career development that never materialize. The company is more concerned with growing new business rather than managing the customers and employees they do have. - Work/life balance only exists for the senior leadership in the form of extended vacations and flexibility. Everyone else is expected to show up and either be ridiculously overworked or look like they are. - Non-existent company community and culture. - Non-existent communication regarding company status, expectations, etc. - 10 days of vacation leave accrued over a year. - 5 days of accrued sick leave available at the beginning of the year, but deducted from your final pay if you leave before the end of the year and use more than the accrued allotment. - Pay inconsistency and a constantly changing bonus policy (read: essentially you won't get a bonus if you aren't in/close to the family or in leadership). - Turn over is high. People do not last more than around 2 years.

Sell the company. It is clear this company is a retirement vehicle for the family and it is not a place to build a career.
