I have been working at SBM Offshore full-time

    Pros

Paid benefits. Somewhat flexible work schedule. Nice people. Supportive environment. Of course this all depends who your manager is. Unique product and very smart people working here. Overall a great company to work for.

    Cons

Appraisal system is bad. Lots of time is wasted on it (Weeks to months) and its so massive and complex they require a training course for it. SBM tends to waste money on things like the appraisal system, 4DX, and other personal development programs that are ultimately abandoned. No raises or bonuses for years due to the market down turn. Constant threat of getting laid off due to lack of projects. Struggle for power seems to exist b/w RC's.

    Advice to Management

Rev up marketing to get more projects. Choose internal self-improvement initiatives that employees want. Get rid of the appraisal system. Pay current employees what they are worth rather letting them walk and paying the same amount for someone new.

Different ranking if you are not a French or Dutch. No overtime as other EPC companies in Houston, TX. HR team is the worst. Too much politics.

I have been working at SBM Offshore full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Paid Benefits, great work environment, family oriented, diverse.

    Cons

Ridiculous appraisal system, prolific inter-company dating, a few micro managers, difficulty in working as one with cross-world sites. HR tends to come up with expensive self-help and other programs that waste the company money.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the appraisal system. You have countless managers yet make employees do their own appraisals!

I have been working at SBM Offshore (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of experienced people, culturally diverse, pay and benefits are good, 4 & 1/2 day work week options available.

    Cons

Company has too many top management hired during downturn. Company is heavily relied on
unnecessary paper work expect employee to follow them. This takes lot more time and makes people inefficient or unproductive. Company reduced work force while CEO made millions without taking any personal pay cut even when company was suffering due to downturn. Company has a tradition asking employee to work till last moment and lay-off them.

    Advice to Management

Think about working efficiently and bring cost of proposals down significantly and try to grab orders rather than loosing orders to the competitions due to pricing.
