I worked at SCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Industry isn't very exciting but great place to work otherwise. Decent compensation and fantastic work life balance. Solid leadership.

    Cons

Reporting into parent company / "Big Brother". Lot's of "reporting for the sake of reporting". Ineffective / weak employees manage to fly under the radar. Slow decision making process...too many levels of approvals.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward strong performers. Weed out the weak ones.

I have been working at SCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity for domestic and International travel, good 401k benefits. Good people. Nice office.

    Cons

Pay is often not competitive, annual increases are lower than the market.
    Annual bonus structure differs from
most American companies. Low payouts despite record performance. Culture can be extremely different depending on your job function/area. Often to have compensate or delay work for colleagues in international offices due to the excess vacations and holidays in other countries.

    Advice to Management

Better align resources. Some areas of the company barely work 25-30 hours a week, while others are working 50-60 hour weeks. Offer more technical training, not just leadership training, to managers. The lack of technical skills of some managers is amazing, whole some refuse to learn or listen to new ideas from lower lever employees.

I worked at SCA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some very good talent to work around.
Core benefits package, in particular the 401K package, is competitive.
    Summer Hours.

    Cons

Internally, it's obvious that how the PC business is being run is not working. We are being surpassed by most of our competitors in quality AND their market price is lower. Rather than improving manufacturing hardware to provide better costs and quality, we instead create an inferior product at too high a price. There seems to be no strategy for remaining relevant in the US.

    Advice to Management

I really wanted to like this organisation. Senior level management made this impossible.

Your associates have good ideas that are falling on deaf ears. Assuming the business is going to turn itself around simply because of our "Value Proposition" is naive and frustrating to witness on a daily basis. We're told to improve the speed and quality of work that we provide, but we're not given the tools to provide such an improvement.

I worked at SCA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent salaries and benefits. Products that makes a difference. Very loyal customers. Great brands. Amazing and very loyal employees. Global resource pool to draw experience and investment funding from.

    Cons

Constant reorganizations, new managers on a regular basis mostly hired from other industries with inadequate experience and no exciting customer relationships. Little appreciation for employee tenure/experience. Delivered customer value not in proportion to price premium. Insufficient footprint with distributor partners and end-customers.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Listen to customers and employees. Invest in your team members.

I have been working at SCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Am working in Philadelphia in Americas HQ and have a great work environment and easy commute as we are right next to 30th St Station connected by a bridge. The work I do is challenging but not impossible to pull off. There is pressure to get work done and produce results but it is much different from other jobs that were much more high pressure. I have freedom within my job to steer one way or another, I don't feel micromanaged and I do receive encouragement and feedback from the management team. Working as an international company, we are more consensus driven so there are many opportunities to work on projects with peers in Germany and Sweden and UK.

    Cons

At times, decisions have been made too slowly and we have lost some opportunities, this does seem to be changing. Because we work with consensus, sometimes we cannot move forward fast enough.

    Advice to Management

Allow for more risk taking and freedom to try things and fail.

I have been working at SCA as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

My boss('s) were great. I was given multiple projects that covered various engineering disciplines. My boss really tried to make sure I was getting useful experience. I would recommend an internship/job here.

    Cons

Some people were really negative about the company but you'll get that almost anywhere you go.
