I worked at SCANA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and pay are good for the area.

    Cons

The hours offered to new employees in the contact center suck. You'll get stuck on a second shift with no weekends off. They make you go thru 3 months of training before you find out your shift. People are constantly watching you like a criminal. Although they tell you can advance to something other than the contact center, don't hold your breath waiting.

I worked at SCANA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

After six years, the best "pro" I can think of is leaving. The company tries to develop a "family" aspect with their employees, but if you do not have your "good ole boy" ticket punched, forget it!

    Cons

Too many to list, but here is the biggest:

The company management frowns upon (and often hinders) employee self-improvement. The expectation is for the employee to sit in his or her cubical and do his or her job. If the company wants the employee to advance, a manager will approach the employee about a new position. An employee asking about advancement or even (The horror!) bidding on a posted position is seen as being "upity." ("Who does he think he is applying for that posted job!?!?! We have so-and-so already earmarked for that position! Now we have to go through a costly and long-term interview process!")

I even had negatives on my performance reviews because I applied on outside positions.

And if by chance an employee actually succeeds in getting an offer for an advancing position, he or she can bet his or her manager will block the transfer.

The only way I was able to advance from my position there was to leave the company.

    Advice to Management

    It's 2017! Stop managing like it's 1960.

    Advice to Management

    Had a great supervisor

I worked at SCANA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you need a job to get by and want to work in the energy sector this is a starter company that can give you lots of experience.

    Cons

Low Pay, Senior Managers that constantly threaten to fire people and create a toxic environment, No opportunity to learn and grow in your job, constant conflict and internal hostility.

    Advice to Management

Start hiring good people with proper business training and not local yocals that want to sit and get their paychecks meanwhile abusing everyone and threatening them.

    Pros

Good wages, stable company, provides power .

    Cons

The office culture is very 1960's. If you are of color, you may not fit in, especially in management.

    Advice to Management

    DIVERSITY

    Pros

An engineering focused energy company with a deep history rooted in SC politics. Good safety record with their engineers.

    Cons

Management is not clear on their business direction and hostile to work force. Scana built natural gas pipelines all over SC to neighborhoods that don't exist and then filed rate cases with the Government to jack up the rates on energy to pay for it. They built a new headquarters building and left the downtown area in Columbia.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the 1970s management routines and modernize your workforce. Develop real business strategies that work.
