I have been working at SCB Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small company, very invested in community, great benefits. They hold events for employees; for holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) They (everyone outside the IT management) really treat you like family.

    Cons

IT management are horrible. They are very bright in IT related problems, but have no management skills. They don't know how to talk to you without a back handed compliment, or saying they are always correct. They "forget" to adjust time clocks, so I may not always be compensated correctly for my work, and don't apologize. It's always a "software problem" or "it wasn't coded right". They expect you to answer them immediately, but don't answer when you have a question, an issue or a complaint. Often, HR has to be involved to resolve issues.

    Advice to Management

These people need to take some management classes. Show some empathy, admit mistakes, show others how to improve the quality of our services. You are not always right. These are some of the reasons for the high turnover rate here.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    - Work/life balance is good
    - Customers are friendly
    - Benefits packages are pretty good

    Cons

    - Management talks about promoting from within, but looks for outside talent frequently
    - Pay is much lower than similar banks
    - Managment pays very little attention to employee feedback
    - There is a great deal of bickering and back-stabbing among employees

    Advice to Management

Listen to all opinions that are offered and at least acknowledge when employees are successful. Offer more fair compensation to employees outside of upper level officers.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at SCB Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Leverage on the global market network, employee will have the opportunities to meet with colleagues in different countries, and gain experience on "International Trade" business.

    Cons

As a SCB employee, the career development in Hong Kong is limited as the management is based in Singapore. Hong Kong is just a cash cow of the bank. Also, extremely long working hours for many of the staff. Work-life-balance / here for goods are slogan, but not necessary the real case in the bank.

    Advice to Management

Give more support to the Hong Kong management team, and more opportunities for the HK Staff. The bank keep losing talent to other bank due to the limited opportunities in HK branch.
