I have been working at SCC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have to write five words minimum as per the glassdoor rules, but i cannot think of a pro to put?

    Cons

Some bright spark at SCC some years ago had a idea to overhaul the whole entire company. They called this overhaul "PROJECT ROME". It basically involved every employee getting put under a microscope (literally) and it ended with every single employee losing out in one way or other. Whether this being forced to work extra without extra pay or forced to travel further/longer without extra pay...and many other instances depending which department you worked. This effected every department from sales to professional services to managed services..etc.

I came across employees often from other parts of the UK that i hadn't met before and EVERYONE was demoralized and had some bad word to say about SCC and this project rome malarkey.

If you see a SCC van on the road, pull it over make them aware you aren't management or anything to do with SCC. You'll find the truth. If that employee has time he'll give you 1001 stories all negative. I promise you.

The five star reviews are all fake to mask the truth. It doesn't take a genius to work out they're fake either. You can tell by some of the wording when they use the term "we" which implies its management writing them. Or when they say "We have a program in place to improve..etc". As if a regular joe employee would say that. Notice the only negs they say about the company are the area (Birmingham) or the parking (which is fine) or minor things that wouldn't put a potential employee off of joining. Notice how when a neg review arrives that they throw 5 or 6 positive reviews in a row at glassdoor to mask the negs(puts them to page 2 or 3) and to keep the star rating up as much as poss.

    Advice to Management

OOPs i just gave away the fact you're ordering managers to write fake reviews. You better give them a counseling form for making mistakes in their reviews which clearly exposes management as being the fake reviewer. Counsel them better next time, im sure they'll want to keep their job what with them being in a position well above their capabilities. They'll cling on to their job for dear life. Clever SCC management, very clever tactics indeed.

I worked at SCC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Your next job will be amazing, whatever it involves

    Cons

In terms of business continuity, there is none; the powers at the helm sit across the dinner table from one another and the empire is run accordingly. Imagine a 1940's German 'Come dine with me' episode.

Surprisingly however, despite this board level stability - there is anything but that across the rest of the company but this owes a lot to the Directors themselves. Had I not have spent a decent amount of time in some of these individuals offices, I could jest that they vomit on hearing their minions/employees names. Except I am not jesting - their walls are covered, top to bottom, front to back in vomit, from recognising that they employ <barf> actual real people, with real feelings and real home lives.

Competency is rewarded with more work, until the point at which your competency walls burst. By then, the company will disown you and insist that your face be used to buff the shoes of the King and Queen. IF you are worthy.

If you are an SDM - prepare for hell. You may even wish for it; having observed from the outside, this is possibly the worst existence known to man. To say that turnover is stupidly high would be an understatement, to say that management competency exists in that 'vertical' would be an illusion and to imply that there is any ability to manage the service at all implies heavily that there is an operational team behind you that are willing to deliver - or a sales function that are willing to support you. Go pick some ex-SDM's from SCC and ask them how much they enjoyed their time there.

Customer's can be awful and I am sure/know that SCC has a number of awful customers. But saying 'no' to them by default, then asking them for money, and then saying 'no' to them again is clearly conducive to a good business relationship; if you enjoying being a 'no' person, then this is the place for you!

Home working is permitted, but only if your name begins with a 'P' and rhymes with 'taller' - or if you happen to be married to said individual. For everyone else, 'home working' is referred to as 'annual leave' - but you had best leave your phone on so that you can be contacted. Just in case.

I could continue all day, but I feel the picture is fairly well drawn.

Oh and Sir Peter contributes a matched pension of up to 1% himself (well, sort of, it is via the workplace pension scheme that enforced this violation of his money - dirty communist policies stealing all of his hard earned and well deserved cash).

    Advice to Management

    Quit.

James - start listening to those lower down and STOP believing everything your henchmen/women feed you.

I have been working at SCC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Have made some very good friends, most of the people at the coal face are excellent.
    You get paid.
This is truly a open and honest review nothing is bull but true.
Not all of the heads of and mangers are numpties, (You know who you are and you can also see the ones that are bringing the company and people down)

    Cons

Management are shocking most people in position are just good time people that don't have a clue.
Majority of the heads of do absolutely nothing and get others to do there work while they take the kudos and this is widely known.
Senior management please look who you got in positions they are pulling the wool over your eyes and lying to you daily.
Some of the management team think they are widely respected lol , you are taken as a joke and disliked by most they just ain't told you yet.
    Conditions and equipment is awful.
Customers are treated like scum and staff even worse.
70% of staff want to get out.
The list goes on whatever you do ladies and gents avoid SCC , unless you like working at the muppet show.

    Advice to Management

Do a independent anonymous internal review you will see for yourself.
Remove your deadwood and the manky fruit from the tree,, then look around your internal teams and choose some of the truly good people you are overlooking that could make a real difrrvance.

I have been working at SCC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good base pay if you negotiate.
    Good customers to work with.
    Some good people.
    Some new offices.

    Cons

SCC could be a great company but the culture and way employees are treated give it a one star.
< 1% pension and no training for employees. It's the only reason the company make a profit.
No yearly pay rises, each employee has to ask for a cost of living rise each year which can take way to long to get through and a lot of chasing.
Obsession in Professional Services with billable time. There is no strategy or discussion in the teams about what we are working towards. Sell it and thou shall deliver seems to be the only moto. Focus of management outside of PS appears to be on sales staff, delivery staff seem to be something they have to reluctantly deal with to make sales. Staffing levels kept to bare minimum which puts undue pressure on existing employees and disappointed customers.
HR have no teeth, raise anything about pay or conditions and they refer you to directors in the business. Seems they don't bother with all the feedback on here, there is no employee surveys, presumably no one wants to hear or deal with anything.
Internal IT systems are shocking, we don't even have Office 365 rolled out or single sign on, internal projects sacrificed for profit. If your laptop breaks don't expect a replacement any time soon. New projects to roll out AX are to little to late. Half of SCC don't know the other half exist and there is no easy way to find out.
Management should be given time to manage rather than fighting fires.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing and that profit margin which is based on treating your staff badly will evaporate. Change up senior management and get employee retention strategy's at the core of the business.

    Listen and act on feedback

Invest in people not just the paper process to get the "Investors in people" badge.

Move headquarters out of Combat Valley, it's an awful place.

I have been working at SCC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Apart from friendly co workers, there are no positives in joining this company. Oh and you get paid on time.

    Cons

The management teams across all departments don't seem to have any idea how to speak or treat their staff. Bullying attitudes ... My way or the highway is the usual response even though there are easier and more effective ways of doing specific tasks. It's obvious current managers are in positions due to who you know not what you know. Absolutely no chance of progressing with this company unless you are one of the in crowd. If you don't tow the line either you will be forced out by making your working day unbearable. If your considering working for SCC don't bother there are far better employers.

    Advice to Management

Management at SCC are far too arrogant and stupid to actually take any advice.

    Pros

some very nice people working within teams

    Cons

    career death
only apply to this company if your a yes person
do not open your month or show any talent
I can see that the some good comments have been put on here recently in a drive to increase the perception of SCC. I am leaving as it is the worse bullying place I have ever worked. Sales and Service are a mess. Account managers are very aggressive and heads of service are managed by sales with no mind of their own. Do not listen to staff experience its their way or the high way.

    Advice to Management

sack your management team as they will be the end of SCC. Clients feel that SCC do not listen and have no customer focus at all. Tell your heads of sales and service this. The management have bene at the company for many many years and due to this feel they own the business and make rules up as they go along. Take a long hard look at how your business sis being managed. For a business owned by a Lord I am sure that the media would be very interested how much bullying goes on within this business. HR are also rubbish and very non affective.

    Pros

Pay Salary on time. but that's it.

    Cons

Very poor management will promise you the earth to deliver what's require then deny they agreed anything or the conversation even took place. If you don't deliver then out comes the Kangaroo court to beat you with.
Total bunch of LIARS , don't believe anything they say and get it confirmed in writing before you do anything for them. Management are all eunuchs and all scared of the queen bee ...None of them has any nuts .
No salary rises what you are employed on they expect you to stay on for the remainder of your life.

Don't even consider working for these muppets let alone awarding them any contracts. They just DON'T give s monkeys about their staff you are simply a disposable recourse.

    Advice to Management

Resign and restructure. Too many managers all making their own little kingdom.
And deliver on what you promise but most of all look after your staff as without them you have no business.
