I worked at SCC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very easy jobs, from cleaners to senior management, nobody does an honest days work.

    Cons

    Low wages
Horrible, tatty work environment, apparently they are having a big refurbishment done in head office costing several million pounds, yet no pay rises for most staff again this year
Most computers for staff are way out of date, mine took at least five minutes just to load windows
    Brain dead unskilled management
    1% pension
    No progression
Scc doesn't care one bit about staff or customers, just meaningless stats
    Pathetic training
Apprenticeship scheme is a joke, they employ youngsters to do jobs like testing mains cables, give them no training, minimum wage and no prospects, it's so bad most of the apprentices get bored and leave
Horrible car parking, with a very dangerous pedestrian crossing, I'm amazed nobody's been killed just getting across the road to get to the place
Everybody you talk to is constantly moaning and saying how they hate working at Scc (very depressing)
Management turn up late most days and then have the cheek to reprimand staff that do the same
ISO standards, security and most other procedures are only adhered to on the day of an audit
All staff should be security scanned on exiting the building, but managers only do this when with a customer or auditors

My advice is, if you are even considering joining Scc, speak to a current or former member off staff, they will tell you, "don't do it!"

    Advice to Management

What's the power point, you have never listened to your staff, and never will, I'm so glad I'm no longer at Scc, it seriously made me depressed, I'm a lot happier now I've left

I have been working at SCC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am fortunate to work alongside smart, enthusiastic, dedicated professionals who are very passionate about achieving the highest level of success for SCC. The Services Division in particular is fast moving, exciting, and fronted by the best people in the business. Working in this area is very rewarding.
There is the misconception of a bullying culture within SCC. The truth is, the board simply want departments to work efficiently and effectively. That said, there is one significant exception …

    Cons

SCC deserves a five-star rating, but the boards refusal to address a business-critical issue leaves them vulnerable and failing.
One department within SCC has been responsible for the loss or removal of an average of one person per month during the three years its ‘leader’ has been in post – one person even left the same day they started.
Its team buckles under the dictatorship of an egotistical megalomaniac with a single agenda, to take a group director role. The consequences of supporting the business instead of this goal are severe and everyone is considered expendable. Although foot-stamping tantrums are commonplace, there is a magically transformation into Mr Charisma when the need arises to win over those of influence.
Although it is voiced that the department should be run like an agency, it is clear no one has a clue how to achieve this or how agencies operate. So the beaten-up team wait to see which of them will be the next victim whilst an oblivious board continue to be seduced and convinced into believing the department head possesses some form of ability.
Where there is a complete failure to communicate, lead, or give any direction, total continual departmental chaos reigns. A refusal, or incapability to run campaigns means nothing is ever achieved and absolutely no responsibility for every catastrophic action is taken. Instead, anyone or everyone is blamed for forewarned blunders and sole credit taken for the team’s successes.
Despite being a liability to the business, those with the skill to convince the board their team are idiots rather than accept they alone are out of their depth, remain in post.

    Advice to Management

The questions that go unanswered are, why has this disastrous, commercially-damaging situation gone unaddressed for almost three years? And what happened to all the other Glassdoor reviews that highlighted the same issues?

I worked at SCC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paid on time and salary was pretty decent. The new office looks very nice and professional, the workers are generally nice.

    Cons

The business is far too siloed, the m2 faction is sold to customers as 1 business but nothing could be further from the truth. They operate independently and are a small company, with a small business mindset. Senior managers are not people managers they are just yes men to the hierarchy and very poor yes men at that! Not one inspirational leader.
The people leading* the business have no interest in the changing evolution of managed print services and will ultimately get left behind without expanding beyond tin and pull print.
The service team are quite good, they are under pressure to deliver saving for issues that are not their doing. The sales team make all sorts of promises to customers then expect the rest of the business to pick it up, regardless of cost. Any independent thought or suggestions will make you an outcast, that’s not the way we do it is the response to ideas.
The project management methodology is laughable, in fact it follows no PMO or accredited ISO, but don’t worry your PM will turn up on site and train you how to use a photocopier.
Customer service try their best but quite often they are up against it from management and fixing sales issues, when sale tell customer they’ll have a dedicated CRM they don’t mean that.
The business is about 5 years behind the industry but will keep going due to the power of scc until they merge it into one or let someone else buy them up!

    Advice to Management

Trust people, don’t constantly look over someone’s shoulder. Move with the times!

    Pros

None, dreadful place to work with dreadful managers. This company is like "Life on Mars" it's like the 1970's. The management has been the same for over twenty years and thus they don't know how to change. Truly is a terrible place.

    Cons

Horrible place to work, not flexible, no management.

Remove it all and start again

I worked at SCC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are no pros for working here - actually, the only pro was that it was a short drive into work and the Refresh staff are ever so lovely!! It's so nice to go there and get a coffee and actually speak to people who care (and know how to laugh and smile)

    Cons

No flexibility, very micro managed, extremely bad benefits, Directors thinking is very old school - still living in the mindset of 30 years ago! They don't take on board the fresh opinion of young people coming into the business. The employees who have been there longer will always be favourites. In your first 2 weeks, it's very obvious to see who the favourites are. Senior Management just don't care about the employees. Majority of employees haven't had a salary increase in the last 5 years and there are no bonuses. The retention rate is rubbish. So many employees have started and left within 2 months. The culture of this business is shocking. Unless Directors don't get on board with new opinions and the 21st century way of working, this business will never keep on new staff. Directors need to take a back step and let their teams make their own decisions. So many people are unhappy working there and they just don't care.

Most people easy to work with. People in team are helpful, so people are helpful in return.

    Cons

Management can be rigid in their thinking. Management are more concerned with costs than with the welfare of team members.

I worked at SCC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At the interview stage SCC looked like a good place to work and the starting salary was competitive. At the time I hadn't discovered Glassdoor or I might have asked a few more questions.

    Cons

SCC is a family run business. SCC has a successful, long-standing management team. They have successfully maintained a 1970’s management culture of controlling employee behaviour through intimidation and fear.

The whole business is built in silos with conflicting objectives, everyone is defensive and a blame culture is prevalent.

Many reviews say that if you want a pay rise you have to ask for it. Often this doesn’t work and you have to threaten to leave before anything happens. Performance appraisals – I’ve never had one. Pension is legal minimum, annual holidays are below national average and sick pay is statutory minimum. Training ? Forget it !

Sites like Glassdoor began to expose SCC’s shortcomings and HR noticed their ratings weren’t good, it was time to act. Rather than actually address their issues SCC simply posted a load of five star reviews. Their ratings average went up and the problem was resolved.

Access to Glassdoor is now blocked from inside the corporate network. SCC has joined North Korea, China and Syria in censoring the Internet.

There will always be some people who have the knives out for SCC, but NOT everyone. Sometimes it’s too difficult to reach around to pull them out of your back.

On the topic of knives, wasn’t the Bates Motel a family run business ?

    Advice to Management

Rather than getting Marketing to post more 5 star reviews why not address some of the issues that are so regularly posted on here ?

I have been working at SCC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

will give training you just to know how to ask
pays well but again you need to know how to ask them for it

    Cons

Micromanaged beyond belief, stop to use the restrooms management want to know why.
On site more than a hour they want to know why even if you are on site for a rebuild which can take a few hours which they know about, they still wan you to call in.
To many short SLA contracts which makes it impossible for field workers to complete in time, then field workers are punished for failing.
STATS STATS STATS, this affects management bonuses and is why its high on their agenda
Management drain moral to try and convert you to a "YES" robot.
Staff leaving left right and centre and management do not care, they just hope that the rest of the staff can manage & when they do finally take someone on they are apprentices who are paid next to nothing and when they finish they become grade 2 they are on minimum wage (which management try to make them think is a awesome pay rise)
very few experienced engineers left, those that are are under valued and never appreciated, can guarantee most of them wont want to go above and beyond as they are not rewarded.
any communication from management is usually negative, this drive down moral even more
announcing 40 million pre tax profits, while not even considering any pay rises is just insulting

    Advice to Management

    reward your staff
    look after your staff
treat your staff with the respect you demand from them
dont treat your staff like fools continue to do this and you will loose more

do some of the above and im sure your staff will reward you back, o and give us decent vans, or at least give us A/C and Electric windows. the summer we recently had was just too.
