I have been working at SCL Health full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice place to sit outside for lunch. Paycheck every 2 weeks.

    Cons

A brand new CEO that has some crazy idea about a wild goal complete with excel spreadsheets and ridiculous animal success boards. Constantly reminded in meetings that other nearby hospitals are hiring. So it's her way or the highway. Patient satisfaction only matters if it means better reimbursement. Employees always threatened with jobs. I hope the employee hard work gets her a really big bonus so she can go away rich...

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at SCL Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Most staff are nice despite it all.

    Cons

Management boldfaced lies to your face, no integrity. Culture supported is one of bullying, deception and falsehoods. Work schedule will kill the most motivated workers, break spirit, drive and will.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach, try leading by example. It is past time to move on, ruined a once great department. Magnet facility? Doesnt show it.

I have been working at SCL Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Strong company, really cares about their patients. Great retirement benefits.

    Cons

Pay scales are not competitive with several other nearby hospitals. Certain areas have staffing issues and poor managers. Others have great managers and low turnover.

    Advice to Management

Support your employees and help them stay positive. We are all on the same team.

I have been working at SCL Health part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great hospital. Good relationship between nurses and physician in managing patients care. It's a great teaching hospital for future professional.

    Cons

Staffing can be an issue sometimes, especially when patients acuities are high. The amount of computerized documentations required can be the cause of unwanted overtime.

    Advice to Management

Consider patients' acuity when staffing the floor. Give positive feedback or encouragement after a busy day. Be aware of what is happening on the floor and make adjustment for additional help.

I worked at SCL Health full-time

    Pros

Worked with a lot of great people in a beautiful facility.

    Cons

Management has unrealistic expectations about workload. Nurse to patient ratios are flexed depending on how busy (and how well staffed) the hospital is at any given time.

    Advice to Management

Care more about patient safety and nursing staff's well being.

I worked at SCL Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good employees that care about patients and their safety.

    Cons

Seems that certain areas within the system have hired a group of managers without any previous (management) experience. They not only lack management experience but either have not had experience or are seriously lacking the experience in the areas in which the employees they manage works. There has been huge retaliations against any employees that voice concerns about patient safety. The employees that speak up for...

    Advice to Management

New management is needed badly. It's a small medical community and it seems your reputation is very well known. Specific managers names are well known and for these managers to find work elsewhere is likely going to be hard for them.
