I worked at SDL full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Co-workers are good people and have a good time and get into the holiday spirit. They do Friday beer socials which is nice if you are ever able to complete your work in order to partake (rarely). They do offer you good benefits including a nice health club membership subsidy. They bring in breakfast burritos on the first Monday of every month and then they bring other food/meals on occasion.

    Cons

    - Your opinion does not matter. Provide your opinion on how to tackle a project, receive different instructions from manager, client is not happy with deliverable, manager yells at you and says you should have done what you had originally suggested. There is not right answer and you will always be at fault. - Extremely HIGH turnover if you are looking to make a career at a company this place is not for you. There is...

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging people let them run their projects and when they make mistakes work with them to learn from these and grow. Having a positive attitude rather than a negative attitude goes a long way. This is how a leader grows a good team and foundation not through intimidation and lack of trust. Obviously these were just my opinions of things that either happened to me or I noticed while working here. I know people...

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good health insurance coverage Good in-house technology

    Cons

Work expectations are 55-60 hours a week on average, with no compensation or bonuses; internal threats of disciplinary action are used to "motivate" on a regular basis; extremely poor training; promotions and raises are based on who management likes best (an employee, completely new to both the company AND the industry was promoted to Sr. Project Manager within 6 months). Bottom line, most of the PMs here are miserable...

    Advice to Management

Keep your working hours to a humane rate, or offer compensation for overtime. Promote those who are skilled and have earned a higher position. Improve your training program - too many new hires sit bored for weeks, and then are thrown a new client because of another PJM quitting, and they are stuck dealing with a client when they are completely untrained.

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere in the office People are very friendly and helpful Working with the biggest brands

    Cons

Recognition system has to be improved because employees are demotivated. Low salary compared to competitors Monotonous and boring introduction process

    Advice to Management

Focus on people investments, not only on putting money to technological enhancements.

I worked at SDL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I joined SDL as a graduate straight out of university (having previously completed a placement year with another company). After a brief induction period I got stuck into the role straight away. After around a month I was given the opportunity to lead a relatively large account (with support from the Program Manager) and I didn't really look back. You can learn a lot on the job and develop a lots of skills which are can...

    Cons

Can be a lot of pressure to satisfy clients as with any customer focused organisation. However, there is lots of support available from the Program Managers.

    Advice to Management

There is a great culture in the Sheffield office - it's important that this continues. It's also important recognise the importance of the support offices such as Bydgoszcz (Poland) as they play an important role.
