I have been working at SDL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I absolutely love working at SDL and my job. When I started at SDL, I was in a completely different position. If you work hard and believe in the company, SDL will work with you to find your place. It is a fast paced environment, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. I am continually learning and working with people all around the world.

    Cons

If you don't like change, SDL probably isn't a great fit.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

SDL has gone through some significant changes in the last 5-6 years but all have been for the better of the company. Having been one of the three largest localization and content management companies for the past decade SDL has demonstrated an incredible viability of its business model and its offerings. Day to day work is interesting and never boring (at least in my case). Excellent colleagues around the world and in...

    Cons

Some of the past changes resulted in high turnover but things have been improving dramatically over the past two or so years.

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

outstanding support for distributed teams and flexible hours - SDL is global in its DNA, and the energy from working with teams from a wide range of locations and cultures is addictive. Having a team that is on multiple continents means that progress happens constantly; it also mean a more diverse team and a broader array of backgrounds and opinions. Being a global company means that there's always something interesting...

    Cons

since work progresses constantly, it can be tiring or difficult to stay up-to-the-minute with things that are happening - sometimes there can be a default 24-hour delay on anything happening if you happen to be working with people who are at a 10-12 hour offset from you. Because the company has such a diverse set of backgrounds (and many non-native English speakers), it can be difficult sometimes to clearly understand...

    Advice to Management

stay disciplined on good communication protocols and practices - avoid hallway and walkup discussions and embrace use of ChatOps; this way geographically distributed teammates are on equal footing with those who happen to be physically proximate.

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I've been working at SDL for just over 3 years. I have to say that this is one of the best places I've worked. My colleagues and job responsibilities keep me going. Since our customers are very well known brands, the expectations are high, but with the support you get from the team it is easier to meet those expectations. I am proud to be part of the content management team that so many customers rely on daily. I...

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at SDL

    Pros

    - I have always been paid on time - Stable company - professional staff - freelancers telecommute and can live around the globe

    Cons

    - Company is squeezed by their customers and rates for freelancers would be better if they were higher - Not easy to get accepted as freelancer - If the customer account ends, it is likely that your project will end too

    Advice to Management

    - Try to keep good freelancers even if their main accounts stop doing business with SDL by moving them to other accounts

I have been working at SDL

    Pros

SDL has a grand vision to help customers deliver superior digital experiences to their customers through highly innovative customer experience management solutions.

    Cons

SDL has some BIG competition! The company is also highly geographically dispersed, presenting logistical challenges to collaboration. The company's geographic diversity is also a source of strength.

    Advice to Management

Continue regular communication to align all aspects of the business to the company's vision.

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've been with SDL for a year now. It's a fast paced, fun place to work. The culture, passion of the people, and products are some of the best things about the company. I never used to pay much attention to culture, it always seemed sort of soft and wooly to me but I've come to appreciate how important it is. I'd describe SDL's culture as transparent, driven, one where every employees voice is sought out (very different...

    Cons

The company is growing and there are growing pains, but the focus on continual improvement is noticed and means they'll get there.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your teams at all levels of the company, retain the informal non-hierarchical communication and keep investing in your people.
