I worked at SEI Investments as a contractor

    Pros

Beautiful building. Work life culture open and inside shows

    Cons

Too many systems. A lot of technical issues which can set you behind and the expectation to complete assignments on time no matter what

    Advice to Management

    Be a lot more flexible

I have been working at SEI Investments full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of learning opportunities, looks good on a resume. Most people are smart and friendly. Good job for gaining experience. 401k match is solid. Growing company with prestigious clients within IMS.

    Cons

The pay is pretty bad and teams are understaffed. Lots of pressure to outsource and cut costs. Location isn't great. Many entry level employees are there just to get some experience and then leave for something better paying, which means turnover is somewhat high.

    Advice to Management

Upper management states they want to be the best in the industry. That can't happen with bad pay and widespread outsourcing.

I have been working at SEI Investments full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great campus, easy interaction with upper/senior management relatively early in your career, young culture, great people

    Cons

Low pay relative to industry competition, no additional compsensation for those who go above and beyond, nebulous (at best) career development plan, avoidance of new technology by “legacy” employees, significant understaffing on non-revenue generating teams, no consistent performance evaluation process

    Advice to Management

Identify your best and most productive employees and reward them with additional compensation rather than additional work. The current overload on the top employees is forcing them out the door.

Value output over input. Management generally looks favorably at someone willing to put in long hours (for no additional pay) but does not actually quantify the output of those hours against someone who likely produces more in less time. This is wildly different across teams at SEI, though. Some teams routinely come in late and leave early, while others work 10-11 hours a day. There is no penalty/reward for either side.

Also, make sure people are maximizing their skills in their role. There are many square peg/round hole situations when it comes to people in roles that do not highlight their strengths.

    Pros

    flexible hours
    great environment
people are all very friendly and willingly to help

    Cons

the pay is pretty low compared to other companies
For IT, this company only hires contractors to hire, it takes about three years just to become a full time employee. while your a contractor you get no paid time off, or salary, just hourly pay.

    Advice to Management

hire more employees instead of contractors, its probably one of the reasons for the high turn-over rate for newer employees
