I worked at SEIU Local 32BJ full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice offices on 18th street and good vending machines

    Cons

The Union charges you dues for supposed protection against termination but never do anything to help. They make you out as the enemy and they get 100K salaries as union Reps who never answer phone etc. They drag you through the process but never let the case get to arbitration. The Union sucks dues out of the worker about a 1000 a year and does zero to help if and ever help is required with what they pledged to do help. And on top they muscle out private attorneys so if you try to sue the union the union goes behind your back and pays your attorney to go away. If I could describe 32BJ Union in a few words -"sick,evil, corrupt savages"

    Advice to Management

    Go non Union

I worked at SEIU Local 32BJ full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay, and good benefits.

    Cons

Working long hours, double shifts and all holidays around the clock, having no personal life. You can be fired easily out of nowhere for anything.. there is no protection, or anyone on your side, "as they claim", even after paying your dues.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the old school ways where it was "hard" to be fired from a Union. And when there were fair hearings and trials.

    Pros

Nothing just end your life they rope you in before you have kids and keep you for life like a slave until you die - you never travel never experience anything but the desk and the door and a mop maybe a broom

    Cons

Worst Union on earth can't express how they do nothing for the union dues the worker pays - miserable shifts terrible people who can't read or speak English and get same pay total mismanaged Union and management all about money and greed

    Advice to Management

To maybe open your eyes hire some people who speak English and care and fire the union go job Union

I worked at SEIU Local 32BJ part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Team oriented work environment.

Opportunity to help hard working union and community members improve skill sets.

Fair performance evaluations with seasoned education professionals.

    Cons

Lesson plans and curriculum development requires many out of classroom hours that are uncompensated. However this is an issue throughout the education sector.

Therefore, Compensation could be higher or the organization could craft standard lesson plans that teachers modify.
