I have been working at SGK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They recruit great people. They have a very easy going yet productive company culture. SME will help with any questions you have and are very approachable. Work-life balance is great here.

    Cons

Reducing unscheduled time off is a corporate priority, so that can be a demerit if it happens too much. They aren't that good at career development/planning, you have to figure a lot out on your own.

    Advice to Management

Better career planning/development to retain in-house talent.

    Pros

Challenging work opportunity, great growth in career, no ceiling!

    Cons

Pay does not change by much as you grow internally, but opportunity for experience is there.

    Advice to Management

Hire talented people and let them do their job, try to avoid micromanaging too much.

I have been working at SGK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people that I work with are great. Great energy, enthusiasm and knowledge.

    Cons

Geographically diverse so there is some travel in some of the roles. Some uncertainly as to the future with the pending merger with MATW

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to employees in the field. The best ideas come from there.

I have been working at SGK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

SGK thought about getting into the services side of the industry way before competition

    Cons

Industry is changing very fast, and due to its size, Schawk is not changing fast enough with it.

    Advice to Management

Stay nimble, listen to employees, listen to key customers.

    Pros

Opportunity for promotion has been there if you put for the effort and step up to take on added responsibility

    Cons

Compensation has not been consistent with market always and the company review process has not always been consistent across the board

I have been working at SGK as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of rooftop parking, flexible hours, plenty of water coolers, left alone to get work done, teamwork driven at times, the employees are friendly, which is weird cause most places treat freelancers like they are lepers. The location is questionable, but I like that its on this side of the 5 freeway.
They use a payment system that they immediately set you up with and they pay you quickly, within a week.
I come in, get my 8 hours, and get to go home. I love it.

    Cons

Lighting by florescence, 80's drab layout. Weird small little pockets of offices and quite possibly a death trap if you don't know how to get out quickly. No one ever told me there was a kitchen till I was there for a month.

You're kind of brought in, left at your desk with work, then your on your own...how to get out, how to set up files, where to put them, how to get on the server, etc etc. I just recently figured out which printers are where.

There nearest place to eat is 5 min away by car, nothing good is walking distance.

There are like 5 different ways you have to log in your hours. kind of redundant.

    Advice to Management

Great job letting us do our work and explaining the job well. I never have to ask questions and even when its crazy and chaotic, they are calm and collected.

    Pros

Everyone, no matter from what department, was very nice and willing to help. I never had a problem with the people I worked with and after I left I had connections from all the departments.

    Cons

Although everyone was nice, there was never any time to get to really get to know the people you were working with.

    Advice to Management

Set aside company days where employees can just hang out and get to know each other. It will definitely boost the morale in the office.
