I have been working at SGK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of talent at the production level. Mismatched carpet and concrete floors throughout.

    Cons

Micro management nightmare, get ready for stupid plays as If you were being managed like a high school football team in last place. Om has talent level of a McDonald's table cleaning worker. All funds are steered toward high level position for new gadgets, no money is spent at a production level, if so its a joke. Place is full of asbestos.

    Advice to Management

This is for high level management. Spend more time seeing what really is going on in your place, instead of behind closed doors.

    Cons

Business is in highly competitive space, and layoffs were prevalent.

I have been working at SGK full-time

    Pros

-Little involvement by managers/superiors...allowing self-driven work is an asset for any company.
-Benefits are good. Not GREAT for a company of this size, but definitely a positive aspect of the job.

    Cons

-Little involvement by managers/superiors...cannot create changes for the better.
-The chain of contacts for IT and HR is confusing, ever-changing, and slow.
-On-site employees are isolated from the company as a whole.
-The company's recent acquisition by Matthews Intl has been scattered and confusing.
-Little opportunity for growth. Objectives are flat and do not help a personal develop professionally or personally. Very little chance for promotion, recognition, or excelling in a job.
-The company tends to communicate about details that do not matter to the average employee, and skip updates about the things that do matter.

    Advice to Management

Encourage comaraderie in the workplace rather than divisions. Allow flexibility where it make sense (in scheduling, working remotely). Find ways to let the employee know they are appreciated - a small bonus or recognition would go a LONG way in such a huge and overgrown company.

I worked at SGK full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    If you're a rock star - you'll shine

    Cons

Way too many legacy people. The business has changed exponentially (needs are now digital - progressive - consulting - strategy) - yet most of top management has been in place for 20+ years. Will never forget CEO speaking at a company meeting and going off on a political tirade - basically threatening employees that SGK may not be able to offer benefits given Obamacare, etc. Was so beyond inappropriate - I don't care if it's a family company.

    Advice to Management

Mix it up - identify, hire and retain top talent - which requires paying them and providing thoughtful leadership and guidance to help them grow their careers.
